Too bad he's overpaid. He is the perfect bottom six energy guy. Which is how he was used every time he scored 20 until we decided to try and morph him into a top six guy because Bergy overpaid him. It's brisebois 2.0 where he's a good player with a clear and unique role that nobody in our system can displace yet he should be making closer to Byron money at most. Breezer got hated massively because his contract was that of a 1D.
I'd still like to see him play a full season with rhp on his opposite wing. I don't care if his center is Monahan, Dach, or Suzuki. As long as RHP is on his opposite wing, and one of those 3 is his center. Let's see his production in that scenario.

Anderson not good enough for either PP. Newhook goes down, Anderson back on PP1.

Slaf-Dvorak-Cole our best line. Newhook goes down, let’s break them up.

Fantastic coaching.
The pp wasn't as good with Newhook as it was with Anderson. Anderson sticks out like a sore thumb on the 1st pp. But he did have a role: screen the goalie, get to loose pucks, win board battles. It's early for Newhook on the first unit, but he may not be a fit. i always liked RHP in the bumper....

Our best line had produced no goals. I liked the attempt of Caufield Suzuki Monahan double shifted to try to get us some goals.

We need Dach back... I liked Slaf and Ylonen, but they need more reps. They often don't know what to do when they get in scoring position. They'll get better with experience.

glad to finally see Ylonen on the second unit...

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Ylonen-Monahan-Gallagher

Another good looking game by Slafkovsky. He much more faster than last year. Progression is great so far. He need to keep it up and have that second to make a shot. Sky is the limit for him.

When Dach will comeback next year, they are going to be so fun to watch together. They will complete both perfectly!

I'd like to see those line combos.

Both Pearson and Armia were decent tonight. But I hope they don't keep Ylonen away from getting a shot with either Suzuki or Monahan. They probably will.
But I still think, one of our top priorities has to be to get Anderson going. We can't go the next 4 years with 12M tied up in Gallagher and an unproductive Anderson.

Maybe we try:

Ylonen - Suzuki - Gallagher/Armia
Caufield - Dvo - Slaf
Anderson - Monahan - Armia/Gallagher
Pearson - Evans - Pez

The way Damp House put it during the 1st intermission is that Slaf takes too much time to release his shot. Said that Slaf will overcome this with experience otherwise praised the quality of his shot.

The good thing is this is something that can be worked on. He has an excellent shot but just needs to execute a little bit quicker. He showed great hands deking through some defenders tonight, and he can pass the puck. When he gets his shooting together defenders will have to respect the triple threat. Love seeing Slaf grow more confident.

Fantastic coaching.
..... Yeah Evans and Anderson had more ice time than Cole and Slaf this game

5:1 score is well deserved

I don't know what was Marty thinking the 20-28-22 was doing great in the first and than he barely played them in the second.

Third period starts and Josh gets 3 shifts (And manages to get -2 goals against) before the time hits even 5 min mark. It took 7 minutes for Slaf and Cole to even get a second shift in the third.

Cole Caufield: 16:46 (-> This was with 6 powerplays ! )
J. Evans: 16:24
J. Armia: 14:28
J. Anderson 14:24
Slaf: 13:33
Dvorak 13:12

Meanwhile in the other games:

J. Hughes: 23 min
D. Pastrnak: 19 min
S. Crosby: 19 min
N. Kucherov: 24 min
L. Carlsson: 21 min
L. Cooley: 20 min

Lets just assume Marty was trying to rest some of the players after playing back to back.

Watched parts of the game.

I thought Primeau was playing well in the first or second, I was happy to see him progress, I tune out for a bit and it's 4-1, damn.

The PP is disastrously bad. They can't take the zone, and when they do they make passes around the perimeter until the other team intercepts.
MSL is entering into "Ducharme"stupid stubborn territory now.

8 seconds into the 3rd............is when we lost this one guys............I couldn't believe our 8 second breakdown. Knew we were done when that happened.
Turned it off, and not surprised to see we got thumped in the 3rd.

The tilt should wake Andy up and get him some confidence.

Next..................

Nowhere land
Your right we don't know how good he could become but the system of not being able to send him back to the AHL is hurting his growth because he's not ready.
It would have been great to see him build on his playoff run last year and build more confidence and experience in the AHL but life is not that easy.

What most likely will happen is we lose him for nothing and he keeps maturing in net and becomes at least a very solid backup
It's true he's in the wrong chair right now. His real place should be in ahl. And about the Habs team there is no possibility to give the nets to one of the goalie who could be on an hot streak. Habs have too much goalies and some teams needs goalies badly. Why no trades happened yet?

Just Put Slaf on pp1 at this point he's the third best passing forward on the team. I don't know whats up with Monahan but he has regressed since the start of the season

Brothers ! Sisters ! Let us gather around this morale victory and gain heat from it so we can continue to be annoyed.

Gadjovich definitely challenged him. You can see him skate up to Anderson and say something. Not sure why Gadj did that, but I assume it had something to do with one of the Anderson hits earlier in the game. Pretty late to do it.

Anderson destroyed him.

So Roy gets called up with Newhook's injury?

Roy - Suzuki - Gally
Slafkovsky - Dvorak - Caufield
Ylonen - Monahan - Anderson
Pearson - Evans - Armia

They should keep Armia with Monahan & Anderson. Both Mony & Anderson just played their best games this season, and Armia really helped them out defensively and had his forecheck game going.

Pearson looks a lot better on 4th line. Evans & Ylonen's speed really helps him out. He can be F3.

I expect they put CC back with Suzuki.

Caufield-Suzuki-Gallagher
Ylonen-Dvorak-Slafkovsky
Armia-Monahan-Anderson
Pearson-Evans-Pezzetta

No reason to call anyone up yet, especially with us playing 6 of our next 7 games at home, with our only away game in Buffalo.

So the best Habs news these days is Jonathon Kovacevik discovering his scoring touch?

Hot garbage, glad I bailed out early.

Andy taking out his frustration on some poor cat, someone call PETA.

Tough to win when 6 of your forwards don't even register a shot on goal (Caufield, Slafkovsky, Newhook, Anderson, Armia, Dvorak) and two forwards have only 1 (Suzuki, Gallagher).

Having said that, this was pretty much a guaranteed loss before the puck was even dropped, so can't say that I'm surprised.

The PP was moving the puck a lot better without Anderson. It actually looked good in the 1st period. Anderson has no role and players don’t need to defend him since he can’t pass.

Pretty sure the Habs can safely put Primeau on waivers now. If Hugo couldn’t work their magic and have any significant return for either Allen or Primeau at this point in the season, Primeau’s glove side killed any remaining hope. Send him down to Laval and wait till next summer to redraw the goalie pecking order.
