Yeah that is exactly the type of player I'd love. What he would cost is a other story.
I would hope one of our young D could be a centerpiece. But maybe not.

Like the Romanov for Dach trade.

But for Mercer, I'm not sure Mailloux, Xhekaj, Engstrom, Barron, or Matheson would be enough. They'd probably ask for Guhle, Hutson, or Reinbacher.

Oh Monahan is still playing center? My bad then, I only tune in time to time and lately he's been playing on the wing next to Evans.
He's been a C his whole career, AFAIK. Where our pee-wee coach has played him for the past 2 weeks is pretty irrelevant.

Agreed, but I was more hoping to find out who from Laval we could call up.
Condotta is a big boned carcass who can do it but would he be call up worthy? I was initially thinking Parker-Jones but he’s no longer in Laval. Your call up criteria has to mean that the chosen Laval player has to at least be better than your worst player at the NHL level at his given position.

I doubt that we have someone like that right now outside of Arber but they’re dead set on giving minutes and sharpening his defensive zone play so it’s not in the cards on the short term.

It's fine to keep Barron up, it's a development year. He will either have it click or not -- it's worth trying.

Glad to know Slafkovsky's alright but who would've guessed there are head-hunting orcs in the NHL? I thought that was a AHL-only phenomenon and rookies and teenagers would be safer in the NHL.

I'd love to see that hit on Bedard, and see the end result. There's 3 guys that would make life awfully miserable the rest of the game, and send a memo to the league about headhunting. But in Montreal, I'm sure MSL will quote some woke guru on how it's a teachable moment, and the focus should be on hockey, not on sending a message , not ever. He may even blame Slaf , the victim blaming is always a goto for this franchise when they get exposed as a team full of non-responsive creampuffs. Lemme guess, Pez to the presser next game becauce he may act up out there?

You hire Jeff Gorton to draft oafish wingers and assemble the softest team in NHL history, you get Jeff Gorton and oafish wingers and the softest team in NHL history.

A roster so soft that when you're given a chance to draft the dynamite Zach Benson or the much-praised Matvei Michkov, two players who'd instantly be the most skilled and dynamic player in the entire organization, your team genuinely cannot afford to take them because of how soft and small it is across the board.

I don't understand why we see fights after big hits across the NHL but rarely see the Habs go berserk when their boys get trucked. I know Slafkovsky brings it upon himself but that shouldn't matter. Suzuki's very cool and calm but at the very least his assistants have to be a bit crazy, like sergeants in a platoon. Matheson and Gallagher? One's fighting for his life in he d-zone and the other is fighting to keep his hair.

Rebuilding teams need to be tough and spikey like a porcupine. Can't take down a bear but a bear would hate to mess with it. Otherwise there's no point.

MSL and rest of his the clown crew needs to be shown the door after tonight disaster. THis is not a rebuild. Habs are not getting any premium talent hovering few points behind a wild card spot... ever. And they are not developing anyone either. In 10 years, just like with Bergevin, Molson will once again realize this isn't working and will bring another minor league nobody because he can do smart-ass sound bites to the media.
You can’t have a team play to lose lol is your solution bringing in a coach who will do that?

No one cares
I was thinking he was injuredto his shoulder again, but then, I saw him swing his driver on the golf course during the xmas break and I was like: nope, can’t be the shoulder!
It isn't the shoulder. It is the fact that he is a tiny little guy with a knack for scoring goals when teams allow him room to do so and that isn't happening anymore. He came in with a bang and teams took notice and used his lack of size against him. He can't risk going to the slot because one big hit and the season is potentially over. We jumped the gun when we gave him a long-term deal but oh well.

As far as everyone saying we played soft last night, what game were you watching? Our guys laid three big hits on the Canes last night and they were looking for retribution and nothing more. The response on the ice was no different from us than it was for them. People need to relax a little on that front but I would call up Arber and find a way to get him in the lineup simply because Barron has lost his confidence and could use some time in Laval and just having X out there would make teams think twice about cheap shots against our players.

I am back to finding it extremely difficult to follow this team. Not a single exciting player in the group. I like seeing Slaf/Guhle/Harris/Barron etc, but none of them are all that exciting. I also think that Guhle is overrated by the fan base big time.

Good effort against a good opponent.
A measured response to a loss in the middle of a season long road trip.

This young and wounded team has shown resilience all season long and has been competitive in most games. To expect more at this stage is simply being unrealistic. With a little puck luck we win that game. Funny, how superior teams always seem to be a bit luckier. Funny.

People sau Aho is not good enough to win SC, probably true but he is much better than Suzuki.
Start of the true rebuild would be Suzuki and Caufield out.

The more I watch Barron, the more I have doubts about him being a reliable/ impactful NHL defenseman. I thought Harris outplayed Barron considerably last night. It would not surprise me if they stay healthy, both Harris and Struble pass Barron on the team’s depth chart.

Gotta love the extreme overreactive emotions from Habs fans over one game. If I was a newly graduated shrink, I'd come here looking for patients.
On many minor hockey teams there is a 24 hour rule: that parents can’t call the team’s coaches for a 24 hour period after each game to let passions/ anger subside. The over reactions you read here provide ample evidence of the soundness of the 24 hour rule.

NJD has Nemec, L Hughes on D. They are not starving for more young D prospects.

We are just fans having fun. Stop judging people. Talk hockey.

You guys are worried about sticking up for your teammates on a headshot in a throw away season on our team full of irrelevant mediocre players that won't be here when it matters , meanwhile I am worried about maybe one day in the next 100 years we will have a #1C , we are not the same

I know they're good at center with Hughes and Hischier. So Mercer likely doesn't play top 6 center in Jersey. But we also have Suzuki and Dach. I don't think Mercer would play top 6 C with us. So, I'd like him as a goal scoring winger and extra C in case of injury. But Jersey could use him for that and they need young wingers.
