For Leaf Nation fans Spectrum Analysis

Regular season = Optimism
Post season = Realism
Off season = Pessimism
( including Reflection / Soul searching / Disappointment / Retrospective Analysis)

The regular season is always the best time to be a Leafs fan based on team historical performance, as its full of optimism and hope and great expectations that this will be the year.

PS. Been saying this since 1968, so 54 years and counting.

It seems like some people are always optimistic. No matter how badly we get killed in the playoffs, there always seems to be reason to post a zillion fancy stats showing how awesome we are. Not sure whether I should envy these people or laugh at them though I usually do opt for the latter.:laugh:

Burnt into my memory, but getting harder to recall!
Was so excited I exclaimed, "shot _uck into the empty net." I think might have been first time my dad heard me swear and it was by accident.

Each year since, excluding the pandemic games I've been excited for the season to start, want to see another.

Mess you forget Preseason = ?.

It's always nice to get an outsider's perspective.

For diehard Leaf fans every season is a real roller coaster ride of emotions.

Habs' 3rd. line looks and should be much better than the Leafs'. (Tonne of Leafs fans wanted Dvorak, and I bet some would have overpaid for him.)

Heck, I might give the Habs 4th. line the nod over the Leafs 3rd.

Doesn't look like a huge advantage for the Leafs except maybe in net.

There is a place for optimists and pessimists. That said, I hope the leafs forum scrubs the trolls mascarading as leaf fans who never have a good thing to say.

You mean those fine folks who wait to post until we're down a goal or the game is lost and that all is hopeless and we should commit seppuku aren't on the level?!

it's not so much that they never have a good thing to say, more that they never have an honest thing to say.

I'd say with Weber gone and Edmundston out we are massively better on the back end.

That 3rd line there is actually their 2nd line at least - Gallagher is their best forward by a good margin, after all.

Looks like a pretty even match up on paper with the injuries on both sides.

Nonetheless, I will be disappointed if we don't win tonight.

By GSVA, the lines and pairs differential looks like:

Line 1: Leafs +2.7
Line 2: Leafs +0.3
Line 3: Habs +1.7
Line 4: Habs +0.3

Pair 1: Leafs +0.8
Pair 2: Leafs +2.5
Pair 3: Leafs +0.6

Goalie: Even

That's with the Leafs missing their best player, of course.

It looks like a team with good wingers weak down the middle with a terrible defense and below average goaltending. But that is just me.
How Allen handles being the clear #1 for at least the next month and possibly much longer will go a long way to determining their fate.

He's been terrific as a backup or 1A/1B, but when he's been pushed into the starter role he has struggled

Wideman on defense needs to be exposed tonight. He's Quinn Hughes bad defensively.

Though he might play less than 5 minutes ES and see most of his time on the PP.
