Very impressed with Steeves. I don't know if he makes the team this year, but he does all the little things well. Finishes his checks, crisp passes, defensibly responsible. Marlies should be good with McMann having another good game. Holmberg also had another good game. What can you say about Malgin, another two point night. He wasn't great, but he has a knack for being in the right position to score.

Kerfoot can be a bona-fide top 4 D against competition like this with ease. Nobody except Robertson with his dynamic style and heavy shot has a chance of moving him to the third line.

He's essentially Hyman beta version. Has good knack for the game. I hope he gets a long look this year

On other hand, Robertsson to me still has a lot of whole in his game. He's too north south. Started the game well, then started to look like his old self.

Really hard to say what Murray is. MTL was all-time all-bad awful. Firing the puck at Murray's chest doesn't do a lot.

First game so can't expect more than just stopping the shots they allowed him to have.

Leafs showed up with their starting defensive pairings. All experienced NHL players. Kind of unfair really, to have all veterans on defense in a game like this.

Robertson is a good player and works his ass off. It’s going to take some posters a while to realize it. You just have to accept him for what he can do and not what he can’t. What I believe he will do is score 20-25 goals a year. That’s not easy.

And Hab fans say we over rate our prospects. Theirs were awful tonight.

I think you are bang on with Steeves , he’s one of these players that just has it and does things right and seems to be in the right place at the right time . Can’t explain it , every time he plays on the big club he shows well . He’s a better NHLer than AHLer , which is usually a good sign from these types of players .a sleeper , personally I think he’s our best prospect as a “ pro “ he just gets it ! I think we have a solid top 6 real deal player here , I’m telling you , I’ve been really excited about this player and he’s under the radar , I hope he makes it this year .

They had 2 forwards on D by the second.

Not sold on malgin like others are. His current game won't translate against actual NHL competition , especially when teams get into mid season form. Needs to find another gear still.
Everyone needs to find another gear, it's preseason.
Malgin was already a servicable NHL player before and has sharpened his skills and skating since. I think it's already clear that he's able and willing to fight for his place.

I think you got it 100%, Steeves gets it. He understands what he needs to do to make the team/NHL.

Malgin weirdly gets a lot of hate here from the idiot gallery because they traded Mason Marchement for him but at the time of that trade Malgin had over 100 NHL games under his belt. He opted to stay in Switzerland the last two seasons because he's from there, Switzerland is a flat out better country to be in than either the US or Canada and he didn't want to be locked down in a foreign country.

I want to be optimistic on Robertson, but more the I see him, I'm just not coming around to it. He has an NHL calibre-plus shot. But his skating, decision-making, and puck protection are all below par.

Being at the game tonight, even with the goal, Robertson just wasn't impressive. Looked pretty lost in the defensive zone (guys had to continually point at where he should be), poor hockey IQ in the offensive zone (he just always looks to shoot, regardless of if there's a better play), and his speed isn't good enough to beat guys 1-on-1. It's also not even to do with his size, he's just weak on his skates and gets knocked down a lot. Had a couple of egregious turnovers which will not endear him to Keefe.

Of the fringe guys trying to make it, Malgin should have a much better position inside the track. Just overall a smarter hockey player and meshes well with Nylander and Kerfoot. Even a guy like Steeves looks to me more ready for the NHL - he understands how to play. I'd give an edge to Holmberg too. He's uneventful, which is good for a likely spot in the bottom-six. Anderson was pretty bad though. And the other super-fringe guys (like Douglas and McCann) just clearly aren't going to be NHLers.

Everyone seems to be making a good impression so far up front and Anderson is just not standing out. Not an offensive threat, not a physical threat.

He has been in mostly defensive roles so far and has done well in them; similar to what I have seen out of ZAR and NAK thus far.

I would like to see him with better offensive players. When you are playing with Douglas and Clifford, you are not getting much offense out of that line. Put him with skilled players and he can produce.

Wasn’t able to watch the game but I’m glad to see Murray have a solid game, even if it’s against weaker competition.

Robertson is a legit threat everytime he has a clear lane to shoot on net. The rest of his game looks rough, but there's no doubt he will score if we give him the chance. To me the main Q is if the rest of his game is better served developing with the Marlies or with the Leafs. Looks like he'll at least get a shot with the Leafs to start the season
