It’s a little more difficult to wave this away as a loud minority of undesirables, as the Habs community has an unfortunate history of toxicity and, at times, xenophobia.

All fanbases have bad eggs, but let’s not pretend there isn’t a pattern. Some of my most beloved friends are Habs fans. They’d be the first to acknowledge. Some of the reactions in this thread are troubling in their willingness to ignore

Fandom can be really shitty at times. Not just sports, either. Some of those Trekkers and Star Wars people and.....lord help us, the Marvel vs DC crowd all have their insane moments.

I don't blame fans for being bummed at seeing Michkov slip through their fingers. But taking it out on Reinbacher is stupid. Hopefully folks calm down over the summer. The kid has the potential to be a rock on the blueline for a good 10-15 years.

Mark Scheifele. Nikita Kucherov. David Reinbacher

People who have all received death threats from Habs fans. Seems like a trend to Me. Once? Ok benefit of the doubt but multiple different players including their own? It's not just a handful of idiots
Yes. The whole fanbase send dead threat. The only requirement for habs fan is to send death threat :sarcasm:

There's so much smoke around Michkov that I don't think fans can hold it against management that they didn't select him.

Plus, Reinbacher was projected to go top-10 so this wasn't even a reach.

Habs fans should be more upset that they got the 1st OA in a draft with no 1 OA player and 5th OA with a set top-4.

It is similar to the Zadina/Kotkaniemi situation.
In that draft more than 70% wanted Zadina but they got KK. To be fair too, Zadina was not as hyped as Michkov though.

Easy to say Cooley now. And probably fans will say they wanted Leonard instead of Michkov if he turns out to become a stud.
Assuming the top 4 projected were all scooped up, I would say most Habs fans wanted Michkov, Leonard, Reinbacher in that order and I'd still prefer that.

That weird Quebecois-little brother syndrome is combining with way over the top passion in all the worst ways, as usual that SMALL shitty contingent of fans can kick rocks, pathetic. Don't think the pick is gonna age well but Reinbacher is a future top pair D regardless.

My first thought was I understand the pick he really balances out the already strong D prospect pool they have but I would have liked them to trade back to 7 or 8 where they could still likely get him. However I think Arizona's pick at 6 basically proved that was not the case

If it's true that management won't play him then they are guilty of contributing to this type of atmosphere.

Management needs to stick to its guns and support their own decisions. They are literally hired and paid to do this.

If you signal that a bunch of morons can influence your decision making you have lost all authority and respect.

Breaking news, morons exist and can write on Twitter.
Bonus: sharing a click bait title with no credible sources 48hrs post-draft.
Better source:

The general reaction from Canadiens fans on the David Reinbacher pick at No. 5 is honestly shocking. The overall outrage is at a level I don’t think I’ve ever seen, and that’s saying something.

On the one hand, it demonstrates the passion of the fan base, which is something the Canadiens should never take for granted and should always nurture. Half the NHL would do anything to have a fan base as engaged as this one, that cares as much as this one. And that is totally a positive.

But it can definitely be heavy as well.

Some members of the Canadiens have definitely been watching it since Wednesday night, and it’s opened some eyes.

But that heaviness is now weighing into some important decisions.

Reinbacher said he is open to whatever the Canadiens want him to do next season, whether that is returning to Kloten in Switzerland, playing in the NHL or playing in the AHL. One member of the front office I spoke with saw no reason to bring him over right away, that Reinbacher would be playing a big role for Kloten next season in a strong league and his development would be well-served there.

But I also heard that there is some concern among Canadiens brass about bringing Reinbacher to Montreal or Laval right away in light of the torches and pitchforks running through the fan base right now, and that exposing him to that immediately might do more harm than good.

I personally don’t believe that should be a consideration here, but it’s telling that it is something being discussed, or even thought about among the Canadiens decision-makers.

This front office led by Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes has had a relatively smooth ride up until now. This is their first brush with the flip side of the passion of the fan base, the accountability and scrutiny that comes with it. I was told Thursday that Pierre-Luc Dubois mentioned this in weighing his decision between following his heart to Montreal or following his head to Los Angeles, and another front office source took that a step further.

“We’re trying to make Montreal a place players want to play,” he said, “and this stuff definitely doesn’t help.”

This is an easy Slam Dunk. All you got to say is something like "Scum like those people are no longer Habs fans and should be tarred and feathered" and be done with this thread.

Saying that other fanbases do it too and "This thread was made to dunk on Habs fans" isn't making it better or going to make this thread go away any faster.

Not sure if this is true or not but pretty disgusting if it is.

1st part is blown out of proportion based on an Arpon Basu article - the second part, directly from the article - is very true.

It's a shame that shitty people have to ruin it for the kid, but even despite the disappointment in passing on Michkov, there is absolutely ZERO reason to be leaving ANY comments on that kids socials other than 'congratulations'.

Shame that a few, very toxic and very vocal few, will cast a negative image on the whole fanbase.

Yeah blame the fans! Lmfao
Its our fault we havent had a ppg player since 2005!

That said , yes we are embarassing
This is why you haven't

Not blaming you specifically,as you and some others here seem like good levelheaded Habs fans. But more the general fan base seems to constantly shoot themselves in the foot.
