Is anyone actually surprised?

These are the same people who wanted the police to charge Zdeno Chara for the Pacioretty hit. They literally forced the cops to open an investigation and waste taxpayer money.
Cherry picker.

The kid has received much more love than hate. Especially since we all heard about him receiving stupid crap.

Most people who cry for more French players in Montreal at all costs usually live in little rural towns , most likely have never encountered a person of a different skin color in their community etc. Usually an older demographic..... you know the type.....

How open mind of you. people in rural places and Quebec city really do not give a crap about the french element cause the french is healthy in these cities. It's people from Montreal and the Montreal media who has an issue with it because your city is becoming more and more englicized every year.

While the behavior of a few Montreal fans has been reprehensible, i understand the frustration with kotkaniemi, galchenyuk and slafkovsky in recent memory.

This pick reminds me of Benning selecting juolevi 5th overall when Tkachuk was on the board. These "safe picks" always end up busting.

I'm going to repost what I wrote a few days ago because it's long been buried back in this thread.

I saw something about this on Twitter when the story first broke. It was one source and if I recall correctly they didn't show any of the actual messages, or if they did it was only one or two.

Far be it from me not to enjoy roasting Habs fans every now and then, but I'm wondering if this was just a few knobs doing this, something all fan bases have, or if this was widespread among the fan base.

This story originated with Arpon Basu of The Athletic. He wrote: "The general reaction from Canadiens fans on the David Reinbacher pick at No. 5 is honestly shocking."

"General" in that context means "most." I do not believe that most Habs fans feel this way about David Reinbacher and have been stalking him and abusing him anywhere. I find it much easier to believe that Arpon Basu is playing loose with the facts at the expense of the Canadiens' organization. All subsequent stories about this issue lead back to one person: Arpon Basu.

Arpon Basu also said: "But I also heard that there is some concern among Canadiens brass about bringing Reinbacher to Montreal or Laval right away in light of the torches and pitchforks running through the fan base right now, and that exposing him to that immediately might do more harm than good."

"I also heard..."

He's not backing that up with any sources. I drank beer at a pub last night and struck up a friendship with a unicorn.. Sonofabitch couldn't handle his alcohol and I had a helluva time jamming his fat ass into an Uber. Based on that information, prove me wrong.

In some of these stories random Twitter users are being quoted as saying Reinbacher has received "thousands of hate messages from Habs fans." In that case, the author and so-called sports journalist is quoting a random Bruins fan on Twitter as a source about a negative story about the Habs and expecting people to believe that's a credible source. Nuh-uh. The world has truly turned upside down when a random Bruins fan on Twitter is promoted as a credible source about a Habs player. I'm just not buying it. I think it is more likely that Arpon Basu pushed a snowball down a hill and it turned into an avalanche, and that was his intention all along.

I think you're on to something. We have nearly every type of Habs fan on this forum and I haven't seen even a hint of anyone wishing ill on Reinbacher.

Not that people here are better at restraining their feelings than the Yahoo's on twitter, rather it's not a logical or normal outlet to take your frustrations out on a kid who has never played a single game in the NHL.

It all feels very made up if I'm being honest.

Why are they mad at him ? He didn’t even choose Montreal, he was drafted. Did they not like the pick ?

Just some fans being idiots. They wanted the Mythical Michkov. If Matvei becomes a superstar those same fans will complain about it for the next 20 years.

Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi were selected by different management teams and most Canadiens fans like Slafkosky. It's difficult to be too frustrated with Slaf when he has played more NHL games than the rest of his draft-class combined.

Where did we all hear that?
When Arpon Basu reported it? Since then, a fan made him a book full of positive comments from fans all around on the internet and gave it to him at the development camp. Some people went over the top following the draft. Since then, it has blown over and received massive love. But you know, Habs fans are pieces of shit.

Geez, I thought management was keeping him away from Montreal and all the torches and pitchforks?
What most people don’t know is that he had an ovation when he stepped on the ice by the fans at the complexe bell and when he did his shootout people were cheering for him. Social media team made a book for him with thousands of welcoming messages and cheers. Unfortunately, peoples tend to point out the negative fans, there is in every fan base

As bad as this is, people need to stop defining segments of society, or society as a whole, by people who behave like this.

A small fraction of folks behave in an outrageous fashion, people give it attention/clicks, which then leads to more and more organizations running with the story to further the illusion that this is how the world thinks.

It’s terrible behavior and very near everyone agrees on that.
Then you have idiots on HFboard that post about how players don't want to play in Canada because a couple of Habs fans sent death threats towards their draft pick. Just idiotic thinking
