I'd be happy if Laine finds some kind balance within. With that would come also consistency. For Patty The Artist, hell, I'd accept even more limited niche as highly specialized PP-sniper if it brings enough scoring to keep him a 'side of light', and not appearing too detrimental for the team success.

Yeah, that would be still running an engine with only half of cylinders sparking, but what ever improves longevity and consistency would be fine.

Good luck, dear Patrik.

Honest question - do shootout goals count as part of players stats? I feel like they shouldn't.

W is nice, but it's unearned imo. Shots are still a problem. Lucky Monty is at the top of his game at the moment or the last 4 games are a different story entirely.

Yes but he’s an old 26
There's always a trade off when guys are injured. They need to heal properly to become durable again, but at the same time while they lose out on games played, they also don't eat all the wear and tear of "healthy" hockey. Look at Monahan. Once he got healthy, he's been fantastic and he has a ton of miles left IMO.

Laine being 26 still gives me hope he'll play well into his 30s, especially when he can shoot like that

Waddell is gonna get fired for the Laine trade.

There was not much he could do... apparently Laine had made it clear he feels he needs a fresh start, but also had a 10 team NTC (if I recall correctly) + I think retention was out of the picture... and timing was horrible, by the time he was cleared from PAP there were very limited amount of teams which could take on the full cap hit and some that could and would've been interested, Laine had on his no-trade list.

I think most CBJ fans could've been livid with Laine for how that played out, but he gets a pass because of the circumstances which make it easier to understand he probably legimately just needed a new beginning.

Waddell could've played it harder but would that have done any good? Plus it would've been a pretty bad look to force the issue with a guy who's been struggling with depression since his dad died and is just fresh off the PAP. IMO it's more fair to look at it as Waddell & the org doing Laine a solid and trying to make best of a situation that really sucked for them.

Montreal gets to benefit simply because their low-ball offer was the best on a very limited market which was made even smaller by the NTC.

That 3 on 3 was absolutely brutal. So much focus on puck possession and not enough on actually trying to be creative. Both teams got out of the opponents zone just for the f***ing sake of it. You gained the zone and have no pressure on you, why the f*** are you retreating you dipshits. /end of rant
I mean, at least try shooting at the net

Decent game. Habs played fairly well.

Andy is playing fast and physical and looks good out there (just want to point that out).

I love Laine just like the rest of you but I wouldn't open the vault yet. His 3 goals are all PP, which obviously count as goals still, but I'd like to see a little 5 on 5 production as he ramps his conditioning back up. Again, would never crap on the guy. I wanted to trade for him so bad and was devastated at his injury.

He did hit the post though on a nice play by Slaf. Hopefully that line starts cooking.
Laine is a very hot & cold player. There will be times when he goes 5+ games without a point and then explodes for 5 goals in the next 5. I'm a little concerned as well about the 5 on 5 production, but hopefully he gets going soon. He's fun to watch and that shot is always awesome and puts you to the edge of your seat

0 chance he signs for less than Suzuki. He's already making more than him, and his next contract will only be buying ufa years.

He’s contract negotiations would be pretty weird right now

He has no case to ask for big money after missing a full year and having had lot of injuries recently, yet he’s a player with potential to explode and get back to Winnipeg Laine so he could want to ask more

I would guess what matters to him most is getting to a place he feels home, be able to settle down and enjoy life and playing again. If it’s 8x8 type of deal I bet he’d take that, he’d be set for life and he seems to have found home in Montreal. He was so hyped to get there

Monahan is actually a great comparison health wise and good example that players can in fact return from injuries to their old self or near old self. Laine is also returning at a younger age - and his injuries were not as severe. Laine also has a higher ceiling than Money.

Laine in 4 games has a look and feel to him that no other player on the Habs has. Not even Suzuki. He has the look of a superstar. I hope we negotiate and re-sign him this summer. 8 years.

The other side of that.............Monty was awful for a few games, and lost them for the team letting in 3-4 goals in the 1st period, so....................we take the good with the bad when it comes to his inconsistency.

I do agree the shots are an issue, they have far too many players passing up scoring chances when they should be shooting.

This is currently his training camp......no worries about him at all. I am amazed his shot is on point already. His skating and game shape will come in time.
