And Grubauer was nominated for the Vezina and then bolted to Seattle to cash in where now he looks like a fringe starter. Next bet is on Kemper and lets see how that one plays out. How long you going to go digging through the cheap goalie bargain bin before you run out of cup contending years? Do you honestly think Sakic tries this strategy forever? I don't and I do think Sakic will be looking at adding a goalie that can take them farther

The aging Price took the Habs all the way to the finals. Remember the "Habs are nothing without Price" or the "The only way you are in the finals is because of Price"? It's too easy and cheap to devalue Price to the max while he is recovering and taking his time to get back. You can be all over it but I can't wait to see if Price is traded and I hope it's with the Oilers as they ride over you in their path to a cup. Price won't hear your devalue narratives cause he will have Stanley cups in his ears ;)

Good luck with all the cap dumps and crap picks you get for Price. Hope that speed up your decade long rebuild.

Or Perhaps any one following the NHL would know that Seattle are far from a playoff team and decided to not get an old goalie who makes 10.5m and does nothing for them except making their pick higher.

If habs were not entering a rebuild , habs would keep Price. Anyways he will probably go LITR in 2 years. As for the trade offer in the first page . The trade is awful to begin with.
Id take a late first and a good prospect for 50% retention of Price and that's it.

Your team is in a window to win the cup right now with Mackinnon contract ending in a year in a half. You gotta think about that.
Don't want to burst ur bubble , but ur not winning a cup with Kuemper and Francouz.
As for Price health I agree , until he's back on the ice hes worth nothing. He's been pushing hard lately to comeback after xmas to get some games and go to the olympics because we all know if he'S ready he will be the #1 goalie.

Lol you think Price is going on LTIR in two years and teams want any part of that? A player that badly close to being done is damaged goods. And I do not want any part of it.

LITR cost nothing that'S what you don't get. Paying 2 years of carey price at 50% is nothing for a run.
If Price is done playing hockey then Malkin should be done because he's been more injured than Price overall. You act like Price won't ever be able to stop a puck in his career. Quite the bad take. Yet the only reason we went into the finals was because of Carey Price who already had 3 surgery on the knee before that and still played the bubble and covid season playoffs like a champ.

Here in the bubble his stats 5-5 1.78 .936
Last run 22 games his stats 13-9 2.28 .924

It went above 2.00 because Tampa Bay was just impossible to beat.

But hey he can't play clutch hockey anymore.

Multiple knee surgeries is not a positive! It just means he will likely get injured again, why would anyone want that. Just because he gets LTIR'd doesn't mean there's no consequences, you can't just have your starter and then find out he's not available and then scramble to use your backup. Avs fans know all too well about injury prone goalies and the mess it creates. Don't need another one with that big of a red flag on a long term deal to the age of 39.

Price is a Cadillac with major transmission problems that a used sales man is trying to sell for the huge discount. But paying anything for a lemon is an overpayment.

Im saying that he still camebakc and played hockey after that and played well even tho he was playing in a team who had 4 d-man in the top 12 in turnovers last season.
He can still play hockey and he will like it or not. At the end of the day I don'T care because we don't make decisions. Im just saying he will be traded if he plays in the olympics. His reputation alone around the league is worth more than people think in this board.
It's not like a first pick around 25-32 and a decent prospect his big value for a deep playoff team whos core is really young.

And yet he’s good enough to start for Canada at the Olympics once recovered. Guaranteed if it wasn’t for the price tag Sakic would take him. Avs philosophy is like Boston…. No overpriced contracts.

mall this to say I agree that there are question marks at this time, but I wouldn’t write him off. As early as this past spring we saw what he is still capable of doing
Team Canada doesn’t have a salary cap…

Carey Price played with garbage teams at his best during the Bergevin era and managed to put this team first in the east and playoff bound all by himself.
If Price played in a team that actually had more than 50 points scorer , Price would have a ring at the moment we speak.

Marc Bergevin built awful teams around Carey Price . The year he won all trophies he got injured in the third round. Habs fans saying he's the second coming of Patrick Roy are right. Patrick Roy actually had good forwards and offensive support , something that Carey Price never had in his f***ing career.
You mean if Price was paid what he was worth, then the team in front of him would be better.

Think hard here, what's the difference between MTL/BUF situations? I want to see if you can see it for yourself or if I should tell you.

Why the hell do those two teams situations matter when we're talking about their value around the league? You have pretty bad reading comprehension, eh?

Carey Price looked like fringe starter in past 4 years.
You trying to sell goalie that was left open in expansion draft and not picked up. I suggest you try to adjust your expectation about his trade value.

You're wrong and I'll tell you why...here's what you said:

Again, you're ignoring the fact that other players, namely Eichel, also had a Career. Altering. Injury. Risk

You do realize teams can reach out to Seattle before they draft Price, right?

Can you imagine how many calls Seattle would've got if Buffalo exposed Eichel? They wouldn't wait until Seattle drafted him, they would've been on the phones the second that news came out.

No one was reaching out about Eichel or Price at the time because neither were available.

Price was exposed but with a career altering injury, they knew he wouldn't get selected and got to keep Allen as a result. Read the articles I posted. CLB did the same with Domi, read the article I posted.

Eichel wasn't exposed because Buffalo intended to keep him to trade him themself.

If Eichel, with a career altering injury, could be traded...no doubt in my mind Price could too. At least I think that's what you're saying.

Who also had career altering injury at the age of 34. That screens red flag and do not touch. Which no one did during the expansion draft.

Paying for reputation is not smart GMing. Especially if it comes with a long term contract.

I'll just see if Tuuka Rask is available, he's a better goalie anyways. If not, there's gonna be a decent goalie made available.

A starter on most contending teams especially for desperate ones like the Avs who have no chance with the goaltending they have.
Show me one post that states when healthy Price isn't a starter on most contending teams. I don't think this has been said at any time and there has been a lot of stupid things said in this thread. If you can't separate the difference between a player being a starter and a player not being worth the cost of acquisition then the issue is you.

No interest in Debrusk, who has no where near the value of Toffoli.

Debrusk+1st for Chiarot(no retention)+Armia is more realistic value for both side.
I'm sure teams are lining up to take on a bottom 6 winger signed for 3.5 seasons at $3.4

Please tell me English is your 2nd language, because that's the only reason why you can't comprehend what I write. If that is the case, then it makes a lot more sense.

No shit Buffalo wasn't leaving Eichel exposed, hence the 'Can you imagine' (i.e. a hypothetical situation). It was to highlight how asinine your previous comments were about teams not wanting Price due his injury, when there are examples of other players getting traded with similar risk.

My point was that Eichel had value even with an career-altering injury, as your whole argument was that teams didn't want to take on Price due to a career-altering injury.

Actually, I have a package a few Oilers would consider. And I can't stress this enough... you keep saying "Habs fans" but the return price varies so it's disingenuous to spin that over and over again.

Price asked the Habs to expose him. And some fans would have been OK if Seattle took him. But once again, Price at full cap hit vs 50% is not even close to the same. Not many Habs fans are pushing Price out at full cap hit.

Personally, I rather engage with the Oilers. They value what Price can do when healthy more than the Avs fans on HF boards. A bit of a burn but I would love to see the Oilers knock out the Avs and their "cheap hot goalie" strategy during the time Price has left and I have no doubt he gives the Oilers the extra edge they need to go deep. They way Avs fans have traded the Habs, you would deserve the jabs
I am curious what this accepted package to the Oilers would be seeing as they have $4.4 in cap space for next year with 14 players signed. So that means they are going to eat whatever portion of Prices salary, re-sign Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, McLeod and fill out the remaining 4-5 spots on the roster - hopefully improving their depth because that has been their biggest need.

So the Oil are doing all this and expecting to be competitive throughout the 4.5 years of the Price contract because that's the McDavid and Dria prime years.

So how much are the Habs retaining and what other contracts are they taking on without damaging depth - so obviously no Holloway, Broberg or Bouchard.

The risk is that all that cap space has significant value and Montreal likely wants to be compensated for retaining/taking back bad contracts, which drives the asking price significantly higher than just about anyone else who is potentially available. 1st + A + B prospects + possibly still useful player on a bad contract is a lot to give up for a goalie with an lackluster resume over the last 4+ years, even with his recent playoff play and overall talent level.

Even if Price is 100% healthy, we'd still need a lot of things to go right to win the Cup, because it's damn hard to do. We are also going to need good youngsters on ELCs/cheap contracts to supplement the roster when role players inevitably leave in UFA, so giving up that kind of return for a minor upgrade in net is a tough pill to swallow.

So, my question is, why should a team give up that much for Price instead of signing a good UFA for just the cap space? Or instead of trading something like a 2nd round pick for Quick, with his 2 Cups and a Smythe? Unless there's a good answer to these questions, then I don't see how to justify the trade, because it looks like really bad asset management to me.

I wouldn't expect that in exchange for Price. I know some Hab fans want to shoot the moon but I don't think that's realistic at all.

As for why The Avs should, I don't know if they should. I was just saying its not all doom and gloom. Price, if healthy, can still put a contender over the top and at 50% is still valuable.

Not only that, you need to get yourself a high end backup goalie since Price is in no way a 60+ game goalie.

Yes, it's a big ask, but I don't think that it's realistic to expect that the Habs would retain $5.25m for each of the next 4 years for much less than that. And I don't think they'd accept the 2nd round pick that would almost certainly get Quick from LA.
