St. Louis has no pressure to win so he’s letting the boys play “fun” pond hockey. The trouble with this is the guys get their contracts on offensive production. Do every one of their players ends up with inflated numbers and inflated contracts. That’s a club that is doomed to being mediocre at best. Is there a top player on the Habs, other than Suzuki, who plays defensively sound?

It’s time for Xhekaj to go down, the team is soft even with him and he’s not adding much else right now

Hutson is the only consistent offensive threat on the team, they need him
On the bright side Kaiden Guhle is incredible.

Hutson 100% is something you can take advantage of if you have the tools to build around his weaknesses (which MTL does not currently have)

I think everyone else should not be part of the plans long term. If you can sucker teams into buying Savard with the weak RD market and Matheson with his point totals you go for that.

I'd target Marcus Pettersson if he reaches UFA. Hope reinbacher can be an effective 3RD next year and maybe even spend on a RD as well from the trunk of assets if you're serious about competing.

Pettersson-Guhle
Hutson-LEGIT RD (A guy like Brandon Carlo, John Marino, or Artem Zub for example)

And figure out quickly which 2 of the Barron/Xhekaj/Struble/Mailloux/Reinbacher group can form a competent bottom pair.

Thanks for Kovacevich, 121 mins at 5v5 and only on the ice for 2 goals. He also has 5 points in 7 games.

Hope that 4th round pick works out for you guys!
Yeah. Habs have a lot of young Dmen who are trying to figure things out in the nhl level.
But realistically, Montreal had to pick which ones they would focus on developing as having 5/7 Dman like 24 and under with a max of 114 games of experience is not looking like a wise idea.

Honestly they are bad defensively but the forward are not better in their zone, I don't entirely blame the dmen on that. They are also trying to find a dman to fit with Hutson since Savard is finally not the right partner for him, he is way too slow. Struble coming back and Xhekaj or Barron out of the lineup might stabilize the D a bit

That's not good. That means they'll be sellers. Hide yo 1st round picks.
Promise you, it'll be like halloween never ended. 2025 trade deadline batch includes Dvorak and Savard but we'll add Matheson in hundreds of armchair GM threads. Dvorak is your plug and play 3C with faceoffs and intangibles and Matheson can run contender's PP2. Shutdown Savard brining his Stanley Cup winning pedigree. It's going to cost you and won't be worth it, but it's happening.

Anyone surprised? Goaltending kept them close in most games.
Coach is letting the players cheat the game. Great Habs teams of the past never had players who cheated like the guys they have do now. It’s sad seeing the cheating to score, at the sacrifice of defending, happening. It’s like the guys wearing those iconic sweaters don’t care.

The have a weak coaching staff. MSL is in over his head. They run around like chickens with their heads cut off in their own zone because they have zero structure.

Of course they are, I mean what did you expect with the HC they hired. He’s an offensive player & coach and a cheerleader. He’s the coach for right now with this group, they’re young, developing but far from a contender. They won’t have the same coach in 4-5 years, he will be long gone.
