Perhaps Lindholm wanted too much in preliminary contact discussions.
Dude wants the bag and he's been playing like he's not even worth his current cap hit.

The coach picks who he plays. The GM and management could easily force the coach's hand but they are aligned with him instead
Why make this thread when there is already a Guentzel thread at the top of the discussion?
Finally somebody with both logic and gets it.Top 10 LW in the NHL and a proven playoff performer. Pens will/should receive a haul regardless of he's a rental or not.
Add Sid and another 1st for taking Sid's bloated contract. Will Guentzel + 2025 1st for Hoglander be enough? Feels a bit light from the Pens side tbh
Depends, if you have the number one player at the deadline and you have a half dozen or more suitors, it's largely in your favor.Much easier to be a buyer than a seller too.
Not speaking towards extracting value. It’s just way harder to sell than buy. Facebook marketplace, hockey players, private equity, etc.Depends, if you have the number one player at the deadline and you have a half dozen or more suitors, it's largely in your favor.
Depends on how much, if any Washington is retaining and how much they can get retained on Guentzel. They had just over $7M in capspace and Mantha is a $5.7M caphit.I'm assuming the mantha deal doesn't take vegas out of talks for guentzel?
might depend on what they're giving up, but I would think not. only way is if they didn't like the ask for Guentzel and decided they would be better off going for a lower value get at wing.I'm assuming the mantha deal doesn't take vegas out of talks for guentzel?
In a general sense I agree. But in this specific circumstance I see it as the best position to be in. If we were trying to trade a lesser player then yes.Not speaking towards extracting value. It’s just way harder to sell than buy. Facebook marketplace, hockey players, private equity, etc.

Actually word is if he doesn't get a deal he likes by tomorrow, he's going to push for an extension. Who knows.Instead of waiting till Friday if need be dubas for som reason needs it done by tomorrow? Lmao what a gm
By other pieces you mean just Smith? Lol guentzel is their biggest trade chip ... should be zero rush to make the move
I assume the "by tomorrow" part is that they would like to have a better understanding of cap space and available assets going into Thursday and Friday.
Beyond Guentzel, we're also talking about Smith, Eller, Acciari, Nedelkovich, Rudwedel, maybe even larger pieces like Pettersson or Jarry if he wants to get aggressive. So having this out of the way to focus on all of those others makes a good bit of sense. It also eliminates the "wait and see if the price comes down" aspect.
Come on Vancouver! Pony up Lekkermaki straight up for Jake @ 50%!
I try to stay away from the trade board because it’s all kind of meaningless. None of us are in the office with these people and we have no clue what they want and what they’re willing to give up.
Plus, as both of you are getting at, every team values their assets more than anyone else’s.
In this specific instance, it’s a shame, because I feel like our two fan bases actually get along quite well when we’re not involved in a trade discussion.
That said, i think the Canucks have pieces the penguins would want, and I think Rutherford really wants Guentzel, but I don’t think those two things combine to mean he’ll bend over AND introduce us to his sister. Nor is dubas going to settle, because this is the first defining moment of his stint in Pit, and he has to get it right to have a remote chance of adding to this core’s legacy.
But, as I said, the discussions on this board are generally meaningless, and everyone needs to chill the f*** out. The last few deadlines have been boring as f***, everyone should be on team Dubas to make this one interesting.
He's a young starting goalie signed a fair deal. He's played well this year. There would absolutely be a ton of interest in him, just like there is on Markstrom and Saros.Doubt Jarry gets moved. A ton of term left on his deal and he isn't much of a difference maker.
Washington retained 50%.Sounds like Washington didn't retain anything on Mantha, I think that firmly takes Vegas out of the running for Guentzel.
Between the rumor about the Canucks trading Lindholm to Boston and Vegas looking elsewhere for a scoring winger, I wonder if that suggests something between Boston, Pittsburgh and Vancouver is in the works and Vegas decided they couldn't match it.
Washington retained 50%.
Yea I agree, too much there too just ignore. If Allvin can pivot from Lindholm and land Guentzel for an extra Podkolzin/Raty from what they moved for Lindholm, that could work. Boston really only has Lysell as far as decent prospects though, would they move him, maybe?Yeah I was about to edit that post, that still leaves them in the running for Guentzel if they desire.
With that being said, I still think something is cooking between Boston, Pittsburgh and Vancouver. I don't think it leaks out that Vancouver is talking with Boston about Lindholm if there wasn't something serious there.
