I think the most likely scenario is that Miller could feel himself starting to go down the same path he did at the start of the 2022-23 season where his bad habits and attitude were visibly sinking the team. He probably got to this point after some terrible losses, being extra irritable while dealing with an injury and some other factors behind the scenes, whether personal or team related. Tocchet benching him was the final straw and either Miller or the organization suggested a break to reset.
