Sprong had to be Allvin most bizarre off-season signing. Barring a visit to the holy waters and the Miracle of the Lourdes, there was no way this guy would have ever been able to even co-exist in Tocchet's system.

Almost from the beginning, he was a healthy scratch and had his minutes slashed. Not sure exactly what the Canucks were thinking. Maybe they thought the guy could contribute with limited minutes in a third or fourth line role, while they waited on some of their prospects in Abbotsford.

Whatever the rationale, the end result was that Sprong was sprung in under 10 games.

It literally cost the team nothing to take the chance on him. No risk, potential reward. The team should be doing that all day long.

I wonder if a Hoglander for Frederic deal makes sense. 26y upcoming UFA, 6’3 220lbs, can play center or wing, 18g/40p all even strength, has PK utility, size, speed, and physicality.

we don't need a bottom-6 center, we have one of the best ones in the league in blueger, and multiple options for the other spot.

what we need is a true top-6, ideally 1st line winger.

if ottawa falls out of the playoff race, it'd be fun to get claude giroux. maybe not a high end 1st line winger anymore, but 11 points in 13 games this year, rh and capable of playing center. that checks all the boxes imo, much more so than a guy like frederic.

Colton Sissons is the guy on the Predators I'd be interested in. Local kid, right-handed centre, excellent at face-offs, signed for next season at 2.86m, no trade protection, physical, and a penalty killer. Has had an atrocious start to the season, is 31 years old, and just got hurt.

As a 52 year old broken down Canucks fan, I should know better than to indulge in fantasies about what could be with this team. But when I look at the history of our management team and when I consider where the team is at right now, I can't help but wonder if there is ANY chance that Allvin swings for the fences on a Crosby trade. If the Pens fall out of contention for a playoff spot and the future is bleak, would he consider it? We have an obvious asset (Petey) that the Pens could use to start a quick rebuild. So what would it cost to acquire Sid the Kid, perhaps with a top-4 defenceman from the same team??? If there was even a chance to do this, the Canucks would have 3 playoffs with Crosby, a risk worth taking.

They'll wait until a bottom team claims him and then at full retention he's worth an asset, especially with the coaches/system here.

He's a good kid who showed some promise coming off his ELC (heavily influenced be being paired with Josi almost exclusively) but hasn't progressed at all, and if anything, has regressed. He's basically Mark Friedman but makes 3x which is a total non starter for any contending team.

To play D in the NHL at that size, you have to be a great skater and/or be able to QB1 a PP......IMO
