I obviously don’t agree with what he said. But I can recognize what he said was out of anger and not truly reflective of what he actually thinks.

I don’t think he owes an apology. He was literally harassed and still continues to be. He just needs to be better at controlling his emotions next time.

It’s a two way street. We bash commentators, analysts, hockey journalists, players whether it’s warranted or not. Overly sensitive fans sending personal attacks and calling him sensitive for having visceral reaction is just pure hypocrisy.

And to note, it was on a podcast where he’s allowed to freely speak his mind, not on national television.
Bullshit. You can't say shit like that on a podcast and then go on the HNIC panel and expect to be taken seriously. You're an amateur and will be treated as such.

What he said was obviously an emotional reaction at the time but he didn't just lash out at the idiots on twitter, he literally shit-talked the whole team and fanbase.

It didn't just come out of nowhere either - it was already clear from watching him on the panel that he was an Oilers fanboy, it was annoying to listen to and that's why he was getting blasted on twitter. Did he "deserve" all that hate and trolling? Of course not, and those people are idiots, but those idiots will always be there and he's chosen a career in national broadcasting so he has to be able to deal with it.

yup.

personally i like it when people show class and take things in stride with maturity and grace. normalize people NOT being big babies in the public eye. I think we've all had enough of that.

Canucks have a problem, more along the lines of differences that knock down fights.
The new management came in with a core they liked, EP,QH, JTM, TD.
They drafted and traded to improve and help that group.

But when they hired Tocchet they changed to give Tocchet the players he wanted or type of players.

This changes what the drafted and traded players role's were/will be but those players were not drafted/traded for because they were Tarzans.

The best prospect forward, Lekkerimaki, is not close to being a Tocchet guy, he is more of a skilled perimeter player much like Pettersson was.
Willander is another that isn't a defensive juggernaut.

Because these players are NOT Tocchet guys will management go all in and sell these types of players for more Heinen's, Joshua's or Blueger's.

If they trade EP, JK and TW then they are going all in on Tocchet's vision of a team. Right now the bottom 9 are more important to Tocchet's style than a top six.

That Tocchet is playing QH close to half a game shows his lack of confidence in the rest of the D or a lack of offensive from the forwards.

Tocchet's next contract has to be considered as well in who he will play. Is 8 million too much?
You're ascribing way too much power and influence to Tocchet when it comes to the Canucks roster construction. He's like any other NHL coach. Sure he wants his players to play a certain way. But he works with the roster that the GM gives him, and has to make the best of it.

So the notion that skilled guys like EP, Lekerimakki or Wilander won't be able to find a home on a Tocchet-coached team, is really pretty far out there in the Twilight Zone.

If this were the case, Tocchet would have turned 'thumbs down' on the acquisition of Erik Brannstrom.......and if he'd been overruled by the front office, he wouldn't be playing him 15 minutes a night.

Roster construction is the job of Allvin and Rutherford, period, end of story. I'm sure they consult the coach......but at the end of the day, the buck stops upstairs.

Much too sick to think clearly to type out a proper response to this so I’ll just call it an agree to disagree anrgument and call it a day.

Dale Rolfe is probably a better comparable, if you're looking for the guy who partnered Brad Park on the Rangers. But the point stands: Park, also, didn't need to play with a typical top pairing guy (Rolfe scored 25 goals over nine years.)

The cost to acquire the equivalent of Dallas Smith/Dale Rolfe/Jeff Beukeboom/Charlie Huddy, the partners (for the young ones who can't be expected to remember) of Orr, Park, Leetch, and Coffey respectively, should be lower than the cost of acquiring a genuine second pair d-man, whether on the left or the right.

My guess at the time was that this was the Canucks thinking when they acquired Desharnais. But then they didn't even try him in the spot during preseason, after having perplexingly given McWard a long look there the year before.

On a completely different topic ... LHD Elias Pettersson has only three assists but leads all Abbotsford defensemen in +/- with a +4. But, +/- ...

Gerald Diduck, Babs, Harold Snepsts. Get these guys into a Mandelorian and revamp that D

When I heard Friedman defend Gazdik I couldn't help but think how different this situation would be if he had said that about Toronto.

When Leaf fans boo the Leafs Friedman will trip over himself to clarify that "they have every right to boo them!" If that happens in Vancouver he's shaking his head and talking about how "it's a tough market."

My conclusion is that it's safe to shit on the Vancouver market but if you don't pander to Leaf fans enough you'll lose your job, ie. Jim Hughson.

Why are the comments of a guy that was one of the worst players the NHL in the last 50 years relevant to a trade rumors thread? Not to mention he made these comments more than five months ago. I mean not only could Luke Gazdic not play hockey, he wasn't that tough. He would have gotten torn apart in the 80's 90's, let alone the 70's and the first part of this century.

CBC needs to gut that panel. He should never be allowed on. Hrudey and the Crotch Watcher have to go. Spend some money and get another decent analyst on there and get James Duthie to replace Crotch Watcher. f*** I'd take Diamond Don back at this point over Kelly or Jen for that matter.
