I don’t really know what to think of it.

On the one hand, Necas is a big step down from Rantanen and only has one more year left on his deal. And by all accounts, the Canes didn’t sign him long term because he was asking for the moon. So I don’t really get the trade from the Avs side from that perspective.

On the other hand, Rantanen was asking for Draisaitl, and he really isn’t in the same tier as Drasaitl. And I am thinking that Colorado must feel his stats are largely inflated due to playing with MacKinnon, and so weren’t going to pay him too dollar. But even if this is the case, they could run into this same problem with Necas who they can’t extend until July.

Necas will probably be quite a bit cheaper.

From our fans' perspective it looks like a giant fire cracker went off and deafening silence followed.

Hardly surprising, unfortunately.

So now this is a botched trade, yeah bet that'll surely help the struggling locker room unite.

I don’t mind it. It’s good both EP and JT know that they’re not bigger than the team
The threat of being traded has proven to be a great motivator across all sports.

Even if only to showcase yourself to potential suitors.

wonder if carolina circles back now to add demko for kotkaniemi

gives the canucks the center to move from one (or both of) miller and pettersson, carolina gets a high upside goalie and clears long term cap to keep rantanen

I see no real hope of this getting resolved in a positive way now that Carolina is out.

Doesn't Vegas feel like the kind of team who would come in and grab a player like Miller?

[Elliotte Friedman] Carolina had two deals on the table today with the Canucks, one for Miller and one for Pettersson. Eventually they went the Rantanen route

Rentals, no matter how good, never get a lot.

Colorado let him go because the $ demand. Carolina being willing to pay a UFA full market price and term would be a first for that cheap ass franchise, so I'm expecting a Guentzel 2.0 situation where he ends up being a rental that they "just barely" miss out on extending but I'm ready to be surprised.

Carolina played Nucks like a fiddle.

Be curious how long they had been talking to Colorado but it couldn’t have just been today.

Masterclass by them.

Got Rantanen for peanuts.
Seems that way, Rantanen was the guy they wanted, used Vancouver to put pressure on the Avs.
