I think if Nichushkin violates his contract one more time we would be able to terminate the contract.

Is that the case? Only thing I read is that if a player like Nichushkin relapses (after being cleared to play) he is automatically placed in Stage 4 which is suspension without pay for at least a year with no guarantees of reinstatement. So if that happens, when would the ability to terminate the contract come in? Immediately? After a year if the player isn't reinstated? Never?

theres also the seattle incident

Pretty much got swept under the rug. That girl was trafficked for sure though no one knows if Nichuskin was involved in that.

I think it’s alarming Nichuskin missed the team bus (playoff game) and the staff had to go looking for him in his hotel and found him with a Russian escort. And then they immediately flew him back to Colorado. Super sus, would stay far away from that. I really can’t see our locker room gelling with that kind of person.

I hope we get a long term solution in our top 4, ala Hronek if we’re trading our pick. I don’t want to mortgage our futures any more for rentals like we did last year. I agree, you can be physical all you want, but if you can’t move the puck out of your own and give your forwards quality looks, our ability to generate offense will be nullified.

Yep and the Seattle incident occurred while his wife was pregnant?

Best bet would be to see how Willander performs in the NCAA this year.

Compared to Nichushkin and Kane, Laine is a model citizen.

Laine does not belong in a conversation with Nichushkin, who is incredibly self destructive to the detriment of everyone around him, or Kane, who is a colossal asshole and anarchistic narcissist.

Laine has issues and has sought help for them, and is trying to use his voice as a platform to help others.

Ya. Laine is more of an on ice issue, in terms of his playing style, than an off ice issue, although admittedly is mental health struggles could be partly to blame for his lacklustre defensive effort.

The way the defence is set up right now, I have a feeling they think Willander will be on the team once his season is over

How is the defence set up in a way for Willander to make his debut this season? Is one of Hronek, Myers, Descharnais going to move to the left side? Will one of them sit? Will Willander start his career on his off side?

If the team's D is healthy and we're in playoff contention, I don't see Willander on the team this year, at least not in the regular season.

Agreed ... it would be a nice surprise, but I don't think it's remotely in the plan. First tip-off is the willingness to sign Myers to that term, he's basically a stop-gap. I'd wager the plan is for Willander to get spot duty next year, spend time in the AHL, and then be a full-time NHL player the season thereafter.

I think they do have some near-term plans for Lekkerimäki though.

Likely either due to injury or resting players in the last dozen games. Although there’s still Juulsen and Friedman.

I wonder about someone (Or us) offer sheeting Harley from Dallas.

Stars have about $25M of cap space next season with Lundell, Benn, Duchene, Dadanov, and Steel coming off the books but also have Oettinger and Johnston that are RFA’s and will be due for big contracts.

Using AFP, Johnston is about $7.1M, Oettinger $6.6M, Lundell $5.2M, Benn $5.2M. That’s about $24M. If Johnston particularly has a breakout year he might be asking for upwards of $9M. In 2 years, they have Stankoven and Robertson up as well, which could be $16-17M. They won’t have enough money to sign depth players.

If you offer sheet Harley for $7.2M x 5, I wonder if Dallas even matches that with the $6M cap space they have right now with a 20 man roster. 50/50 chance imo.

I would think they would match that and figure the rest out later. 47 pt, 22 year old top 4 defenseman are rare commodities.

I would go with Laine

If Laine could somehow shake loose with a lot of retention I would be ecstatic if the Canucks could get him. One of the only absolutely consistent rules in building a team is that when an elite forward comes cheaply you don't worry for a second about fit.

I understand the trepidation around Nichushkin but in the event he is cleared to return, is not welcomed back by the Avs players and Tocchet believes in him he would be the best on ice fit for our team. Pettersson with a monster of a winger would fundamentally change the makeup of our team.
