Wha time the Oil gotta nounce their decision by tomorrow? It’s very good but…man…it’s been posted a lot this year.
Leaving ncaa this year and playing a few games to give myers some rest and integrating himslef next year. If he is good enough to we are in the second and final year of a $2m tradable Contract that could be a 7th dman if needed.
I was saying this about Elliotte before it was cool! It’s very good but…man…it’s been posted a lot this year.
They could have gone after a dman that would have both cost more, needed longer term and would have had the capacity to play at a higher level then either Myers or Descarnais. I believe they did that and a strategy to allow for Willander to walk Into a top 4 role sooner than later. If Willander is ready, I have no doubt they would bump one of those two to the number 7 spot or make a trade.I think we see things differently. Do I think this is the last season Willander spends in college? Yes. Do I think he might even get a look this coming season? Maybe. But I don't think they will purposely rest Myers. This type of load management isn't common in the NHL and if you have followed the talks some of us were engaged in with regars to resting Petey for the playoffs, you'll probably come to the same conclusion that the team is unlikely to rest Myers simply because he's older.
Also, Descharnais is signed for 2 years. How does that suggest to you that the plan is for Willander to be on the team by the end of this coming season? Because Descharnais doesn't have an NTC? Technically the team can trade Petey to any team. Is the plan really to have Descharnias serve as the 7th Dman if need be?
I just don’t understand why you would give Myers 3 years with an NMC attached for the first 2 and then sign Desharnais to a 2x2 with Willander likely on the way.
Either they think Willander will be at least 2 years away (which if that’s the case then certainly a major disappointment of an 11 OA pick and I’d then prefer they use him as a trade piece) or the plan is to ride 4 RHD with Desharnais moved to the left side. Cause there’s no way you’re leaving a $2M contract on the press box and Foote/Tocchet were a major proponent in bringing Desharnais here in the first place.
Way too early to give up on Willander at that point. Broberg was a higher pick, still hasn't made a team out of camp, and teams are throwing 4+ mil at him based on potential at 22 years old. 11th ov is far from a slam dunk pick, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a year of AHL seasoning. That would be like giving up on Lekkerimaki if he doesn't make the team in a few months. 20 is still really young.I just don’t understand why you would give Myers 3 years with an NMC attached for the first 2 and then sign Desharnais to a 2x2 with Willander likely on the way.

In one of the deepest drafts of this century where legit 4 first overall caliber players were taken within the first 7 picks alone? Yeah. We are literally talking about an 11th OA pick, not a 3rd rounder. You think if an 11 OA pick isn't ready within his first 2 years after being drafted it's a "major disappointment"?
That's a ridiculous take lol.
Broberg has been a massive disappointment and it just further proves my point to cut bait and extract a pick rather than wait on him. I think it’s a stupid OS by St Louis and Edmonton would be even more stupid to match that ridiculous OS.Way too early to give up on Willander at that point. Broberg was just an example of a high pick that didn't pan out by 20 years old, yet is clearly still perceived as having potential.Broberg has been a massive disappointment and it just further proves my point to cut bait and extract a pick rather than wait on him. This Broberg OS thing is probably the most rarest kind of thing you’ll ever see. I’m not sure why a team would offer sheet a high amount on an unproven disappointing player that’s entering his D+6 year. He’s essentially become a PP specialist at the AHL level and St Louis are throwing a ton of money based off 13 playoff games where he was mostly average. He’s a reclamation project at this stage, playoff teams don’t have room nor the time for those.
It’s like if the Canucks were to offer sheet Derrick Pouliot for $4.5M.
Perhaps we're overthinking things. Dmen get banged up over the course of a season. Call it load management or rest days or whatever, it's entirely plausible - likely even - that Willander gets some reps on the bottom pairing as the season winds down and with us (hopefully) gearing up for a playoff run. That way they can see if he's a viable injury replacement in the postseason if nothing else.I just don’t understand why you would give Myers 3 years with an NMC attached for the first 2 and then sign Desharnais to a 2x2 with Willander likely on the way.

this is very CanuckSounds like it's time to be concerned about Demko...
Sounds like it's time to be concerned about Demko...
I think management has been concerned about him since their 1st season with him. This isn’t a new development.Sounds like it's time to be concerned about Demko...
The concern is less so that this is a one-time injury that and that the team needs to overcome not having him for 1/4, 1/2, all of the regular season…different situation from last season, where the team needed demko for 50+ games to know if the playoffs would be a reality.
someone like forsberg from ottawa (now that they have ullmark) shouldn't cost much, and he'd be a fine platoon with silovs. vejmelka would be a very solid add if ingram is the guy in utah.
if demko can come back for the playoffs, that's really all i'd be focused on.
