The team has 750k in space and a 22 man roster.

First, activate Demko and send down Silovs, this doesn't affect roster count but gives the team a total of 1.6m in space.

Second, send down Bains + Sasson for a roster count of 20 and cap space of 3.3m, or Juulsen if adding a defenseman.

Then you can make whatever deal you want here, if the Pens want Hoglander that's 4.4m in cap space while adding, then call up whoever is necessary.

Not a strict "addition" but it's still very doable, though with how little ice Hoglander sees Tocchet may disagree.

three of those 22 players aren't healthy (miller, hronek, forbort). even if they activate demko and demote silovs they still need to add a defenseman just to ice 18 players

IR removes their roster spot, so no they don't.

Correct, you can have 23 players on the Active roster. Placing someone on IR requires them to be on IR for like a week or something. So, can't just drop a guy on IR on Monday and reactive him on Thursday for example.

It's going to be a tough season. They're not going to win the division, and will have to scrap out a tough round 1 against one of Edmonton, Vegas, Minnesota, or Winnipeg.

But sometimes that's just the way shit goes. We were virtually never injured last year and it's been pretty bad since Demko went out in the last playoffs from a luck perspective.

But hey, you never know. Maybe we get really healthy come playoff time and pull off some steals around the deadline and go in as one of those faux 7-8 seeds and have a deep run. I don't think that's unrealistic either. A 3D and 5D would go very far for this team, and they have the assets to get both.

The Hronek injury just makes me want to make a trade even less. It made sense to be aggressive last year when everything was going right. This year that's far from the case.

But if they can do what they did in Pittsburgh when they traded Sprong for MPettersson, then sure do it. But I wouldn't make a significant trade just to keep this current team afloat, the trade has to make sense long term

Try to find the next MPettersson instead

What a nightmare season...

Miller, Boeser, Demko, and now Hronek? It wasn't meant to be this season I guess... maybe we can circumvent the cap similiar to Vegas?

The team already needed a solid top-4 defenseman before Hronek went down. I can see making that move now and pivoting from a LHD to a RHD. When Hronek returns Myers gets moved to the 3rd pairing, which is where he belongs, and Desharnais gets dealt.

as per last month they still need to ditch forbort, desharnais asap for cap purposes

they now need to send down silovs to see if he can restore any value and would trade him at deadline as well. hes completely cooked atm

Desharnais played 78 games for the Oilers last year. He should be able patch things over.

Perhaps a low level trade for Bear is in order?
I mean, they'll both be in the lineup now, but I don't really get why Juulsen has been in ahead of VD. Juulsen is so, so limited. And the Brannstrom-VD pair was actually good in the minutes they were given.

Yeah, I'd look into Bear too. I suggested him before.

Hoglander is averaging more ice time this season than last.

I don't think he played enough last season either though, if anything it shows Tocchet didn't trust him even when he was scoring 25ESG.

Yes, I saw your post on it and agree. There was also Fabbro, who must have been shopped before he hit waivers. Interim solutions are there.

Juulsen I want gone. He's probably ahead of VD because of his mobility, but his defensive IQ doesn't compare. Desharnais should be playing over him.

Mobility is so meaningnless if you have problems stumbling over your feet or using the speed to chase bad hits.

Desharnais is just a smarter hockey player.

The Canucks are in a good enough spot that they do not need to panic right now. Yes, the defence is not looking good but I still hold out hope that Soucy and Myers can get back to at least a reasonable level. How has McWard looked in Abby? I remember the attempted Hughes - McWard experiment - perhaps it is time to try that again for a few games and pray to god that Soucy figures it out. If Demmer comes back, that may "magically" make our D look better again!
Hughes - McWard
Soucy - Myers
Brannstrom - Desharnais

which is why they need to send him down to the ahl to regain some confidence/work on things, then see if he can come up again later on and play better so hes maybe back to the level of a lesser prospect being thrown into a deal
