So you play the cards you're dealt. If Ehlers has more value to the team than any trade return, Chevy has to show he is playing to win, and not trade in for tomorrow.

If we trade Nik we absolutely need to ensure it helps the team right now. Sure we can move him for a futures based package but that sends a pretty piss poor message to the players.
Otherwise we should keep him as an own rental and see what happen come the offseason, it's a bigger risk for sure but I feel like shipping out a top 6 player right now while the team is performing is a good way to crater moral.

Id also say that while you never want to lose an asset for nothing, the Jets have some replacement buns in the oven. Organizationally at F I feel like we're pretty strong, with Lambert and Chibrikov close and looking like top 6 options, and Lucius, Barlow and Yaeger less solid but still potential contributors.

I think the Jets could better absorb Ehlers walking to FA at this point so if we have to use him as an own rental it makes the most sense.

I would want him to extend here. Players like Nik are rare IMO.

I think its more of they would rather have picks/prospects instead of losing Ehlers to FA and have nothing to show for it. IMO Ehlers is the most liked forward on this board.
Seriously question thou which is better ... to lose a player to FA and get nothing or lose a player, a 1st and a prospect for the same result?
This can change in a few months but as of right now the team chemistry is great why rock the boat .. ride it out. The Blues won the Cup with no TDL trades just a coaching change.

Apples might regress the scoring of the line but he's the best neutral zone skater, which allows for defense to pressure. But how long can Lowry sustain it? Does he get better with age?

The biggest thing that is going to keep Lowry from ever getting Selke recognition is he isn't very good at faceoffs lately, And that is a major thing that goes into voting. He's only 47.3% this year. Right now just going off of stats Drai and Hischier seem like possible front runners. Kopitar is likely in the mix as well. Barkov is probably going to be up there. The voters rarely look into advanced stats but maybe that will change as they become more mainstream.

I wouldn't be opposed to trying it. But I question if he'd make the correct reads in the ozone.

We don't see it the same way and that's fine. I like the idea of a pure speed line that counterbalances the others. Do everything fast and teams have to defend that.

Perfetti and Iafallo had some success as a winger combo last year. The gap between Kupari and Namestnikov isn't as great as last year.

I have a hard time seeing Scheif giving up his chosen wingers. Vilardi's physicality takes away more lumps that Scheif would get without him. And if there is a guy that isn't replaceable in the lineup it's Scheifele.

My 2 cents, or maybe a nickel with inflation. Maybe a zero if you round it off.

I agree with @surixon but do see some of @voyageur points but Perfetti has hit 7 posts and set up 5 guys for breakaways in the last 12 games. Has created enough to have 8-10 points in the last few games alone and easily could have had two last night. Moving him to the 4th at this point you lose the creation and will just exacerbate the goaless streak. He should have just scored the empty net goal and not passed to Connor a couple of games ago and the goaless narrative goes away lol.

He has more points than Pinto, Slafkovsky, Wyatt Johnston, Beniers, Byfield, Mercer, McTavish and the list goes on. He has similar production in less ice as Bedard, Lafreniere Rossi, Stankoven and you want to put him on the 4th line for a rookie who has 3 goals in 14 games in the AHL?

I just don't think Kupari has the hands to play in the top 6. We already see enough plays die on Names stick because he doesn't quite have those Elite puck skills. Not to say he has stone hands he does convert on some of them but I see a lot of plays that both Ehlers and Perfetti make that he can't quite handle. Ideally I think you want a shooter in that spot with Ehlers he creates so much space for the 3rd guy entering the zone and is great at getting the puck there. A guy with a good shot who could corral those passes and get a quality shot off would work wonders for Nik.

The issue is Lambert wants the puck on his stick all the time like Ehlers. It isn't about speed, it's about the fact both want the same role on the line and they'll clash.

It isn't about linemates for the fourth line, it's about style of play. Our fourth lines are hard north south crash and bang. The top 6 plays with more movement, rotations and space manipulation. Very different games.

Yup, they significantly outscore their matchups. More puck luck and they have a number more goals.

Scorers are streaky. Scheifele is going through something.

I think if you subtract the San Jose game where Scheifele was coasting with a lead and the 2nd line was just pumping chances the numbers aren't so different between 1 and 2. Top line definitely gets harder matchups.

You are correct about line 1 getting harder matchups but they also get 5 or 6 minutes a night more ice and most of the power play time.
Usage is more than about matchups, icetime and power play time play a big part point totals

He's the best defensive player on that line and a good puck distributor. The Kings 2nd goal came when he wasn't on the ice and you saw a total breakdown in defensive zone coverage.

I wonder what the analytics really look like with Ehlers and Perfetti. Like stuff we don't see. How often do those two make plays that lead to each other's scoring chances? Namestnikov is kind of the wheel in that line in terms of making plays. And he's probably the only one who will go to the net regularly.
