Yes and i could kick as at rec hockey back in 2017-18... guy lafleur had amazing playoff runs too lets sign his corpse

Can't be worse than Ehlers honestly.

Count the points and suddenly he was able to play defense comments from the spread sheet watchers. They made Svechnikov look like a NHL player.

Revisonist history. Yeah.... it was all Dubois fault. LMAO

He certainly didn't help much.

You dont hold scheif to that standard... and everyone lets pionk use his foot as an excuse... back issues seem legit to me
The main difference is both of those players have performed in the playoffs. Nik hasn't yet.

What a lame response.

Sorry reality doesn't fit your narrative.

I like nik but a guy who disappears when games matter isn't worth big bucks.

I'm trying to remember when Chevy lost a player especially a very good one that we drafted, for absolutely nothing. It hasn't happened and i really don't it will with Ehlers . Chevy will know if Ehlers doesn't want to sign and make a trade but i for 1 think Ehlers is going to re-sign .
The whole offseason began with Ehlers agent leaking that he wouldn't re-sign or maybe that was just banter, but it did seem like Chevy was trying to land a 1st and a player for Ehlers or Mc Groarty at the draft, and that quickly died, and you wonder if the offers came in low with Ehlers back/hernia in question, through another media source.

So you play the cards you're dealt. If Ehlers has more value to the team than any trade return, Chevy has to show he is playing to win, and not trade in for tomorrow.

Ehlers is in a good situation this year. Whatever happens he is going to get paid as a top 25/30 regular season point producer as long as the PP clicks.

If we trade Nik we absolutely need to ensure it helps the team right now. Sure we can move him for a futures based package but that sends a pretty piss poor message to the players.
Otherwise we should keep him as an own rental and see what happen come the offseason, it's a bigger risk for sure but I feel like shipping out a top 6 player right now while the team is performing is a good way to crater moral.

Did he actually say he wouldn’t re-sign? I don’t remember it being that direct of a statement.

Id also say that while you never want to lose an asset for nothing, the Jets have some replacement buns in the oven. Organizationally at F I feel like we're pretty strong, with Lambert and Chibrikov close and looking like top 6 options, and Lucius, Barlow and Yaeger less solid but still potential contributors.

I think the Jets could better absorb Ehlers walking to FA at this point so if we have to use him as an own rental it makes the most sense.

I don't believe so, but there was "speculation". It sounds like he's enjoyed his time here and is enthused playing for Arniel.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Ehlers wasn’t interested in signing another extension with the club.

Arniel said he “needed” Ehlers, with his patented speed and scoring, after his hiring was announced this past spring.

“That’s what you want to hear,” Ehlers said. “You want to play for a team that wants you. I’ve been here for nine years. I’ve loved it.

I would want him to extend here. Players like Nik are rare IMO.

I think its more of they would rather have picks/prospects instead of losing Ehlers to FA and have nothing to show for it. IMO Ehlers is the most liked forward on this board.
Seriously question thou which is better ... to lose a player to FA and get nothing or lose a player, a 1st and a prospect for the same result?
This can change in a few months but as of right now the team chemistry is great why rock the boat .. ride it out. The Blues won the Cup with no TDL trades just a coaching change.
Speaking of coaches Ehlers getting on the #1 PP unit were the coaches decisions ... those idiots are finally gone.
I actually think our set up has changed - seems a lot more like ehlers and vilardi exchanging roles as the bumper and keeping teams off balance - we can basically change the powerplay set up at will now

This is kind of the year where you are trying to distinguish who is for real? You've got a ppg player in Ehlers, Pionk in the Norris race. Lowry should be the Selke favourite, as he is pacing for over 50 points this year. And his line if I read the stats right has scored 13 goals to 3 against. while defending far more than any line. Namestnikov is also pacing for 50 points.

Lowry I think is for real. I long ago said on these boards that said Adam wasn't a good enough 3rd line center for the Jets to be competitive that he needed better wingers. And Nino is just that. Apples might regress the scoring of the line but he's the best neutral zone skater, which allows for defense to pressure. But how long can Lowry sustain it? Does he get better with age?

I still don't think Perfetti-Namestnikov-Ehlers is the right fit for for a 2nd line that is 3rd on the team in scoring in spite of a distinct offensive zone advantage. Especially on the road. Or heading into the playoffs. And I am not sure it's Namestnikov who is the problem. But maybe I am prejudiced.

I'd still like to see Lambo get a look on that 2nd line in Perfetti's place. RH shot, more speed.

And knock Perfetti down to the 4th line in Barron's place, more scoring.

Perfetti can play his natural side that way.

Barron as #13 is an upgrade on Gustafsson.

Kupari could play PK1 take Barron's spot and protect Lowry on draws. Namestnikov can play PK2 in Kupari's place.

The biggest thing that is going to keep Lowry from ever getting Selke recognition is he isn't very good at faceoffs lately, And that is a major thing that goes into voting. He's only 47.3% this year. Right now just going off of stats Drai and Hischier seem like possible front runners. Kopitar is likely in the mix as well. Barkov is probably going to be up there. The voters rarely look into advanced stats but maybe that will change as they become more mainstream.

Lambert would be highly redundant on line two. That line already has Ehlers and to a less extent Namestnikov that bring everything he does to the table. Far too much duplication of skills. If anything put him on line 1 for his transition game, and put Vilardi at 2C. That way line 2 has some size and a net presence. Move Namestnikov to the fourth line.

Perfetti doesn't fit on a fourth line the way our fourth line plays, we had ample evidence of that last year.
