I feel foolish for even asking this, but where's Jesse Puljujärvi?

I was focused on watching Matthews vs. Laine so I didn't even think of him until the game was about over.

I searched his name on Google News and didn't see anything pertaining to injuries.

Not good enough to play there yet.

USA just has no talent out there. Relying on young guys like Larkin, and Matthews, and Hanifin to carry them. Good luck with that. I can't count how many times one of Matthews linemates killed an offensive play he created.

No, seriously. Matthews didn't get a pass from his linemates in the offensive zone all game. He'd be the guy gaining the zone then he'd dish to a linemate then he never saw the puck again until it was out of the zone again. It's all Larkin and Matthews and nothing else.

MOD this is your post:

Auston Matthews is a rookie, he was seeing the ice. What other rookies are you talking about?

I don't even know what to say anymore to you, FINLAND WAS PROTECTING THE LEAD AND NO ROOKIE SAW ICE.

I answered to post that said Laine is bad defensively and benched for that reason, which was false.
If Finland was trying to score you can bet Laine would have seen ice and a lot like Matthews.

USA made this a good game, our glorious coach KJ didn't seem to have any tools to deal with their aggressive forecheck.

Refs were dreadful.

I'm sick of all these constant player comparisons. Why can't people just say "X has been great today" instead of "X has been much better than Y today".

From team USA I was impressed by Larkin, Hanifin and Matthews in particular.

I don't think you need to defend that, Finland is obviously there to win, not to prop up its best prospects -- and if to win they need to sit an 18-year old, so be it.

Too much is being extrapolated based on this one game. And I'm not referring to your post, just a general comment.
I agree fully. Just annoyed how Laine is being downplayed by the fact he wasn't given icetime. Insert Stu Bickel ice-time GIF here...

Don't get me started on AHL superstar Vatrano's tunnel vision...

Stop attacking posters. If you want to discuss the game that's fine but attacking countries and people living there is not allowed

Um, Auston Matthews?

Finnish rookies.. Laine would on the ice too if Finland was trying to tie the game. And you have to remember with this talk about Laine and Matthews that they are prospects. It is not about how good they are defensively now. Defence is easy to learn later when you are older. It is about the skillset and potential when talking about prospects.

It's true. If the US was up 3-2 Laine would've been out there no doubt.

Code:
Matthews was pretty great all game. Was better than Barkov 2/3 periods even, was not expecting that. Barkov is great though came out so strong in the 3rd.

Really wish Matthews had non-plugs for linemates.

Finland didn't take very seriously this game, no offense but don't read too much into one game :D

Barkov was miles better than AM that age.

I really liked Team USA today. They were faster and stronger and had the better of the play for the most of the match.

Neither of the kids impressed me, at all, really. Larkin did.

Supposed to have your best players on the ice during crunch time. Matthews was on the ice. If Laine is that great he should be playing.

The Finnish coach believes in "roles". Each player has their own role in the team and they are utilized accordingly. I.e. when defending a lead the defensive role players are playing and vice versa.

Good to know we can win good teams even when we don't bring out our best game. :yo:
