Matthews was pretty great all game. Was better than Barkov 2/3 periods even, was not expecting that. Barkov is great though came out so strong in the 3rd.

Really wish Matthews had non-plugs for linemates.

USA just has no talent out there. Relying on young guys like Larkin, and Matthews, and Hanifin to carry them. Good luck with that. I can't count how many times one of Matthews linemates killed an offensive play he created.

Thats ********. Neither had a great game

How surprising you have a finnish avatar. Drop the bias for awhile. Matthews was great in all 3 zones, 5on5, ran the power play and was the go to guy when 6 on 5. And he is 18..

Matthews got a point and played a very strong defensive game. Not his best performance but I'll take it. He was a +1 when he had no business being that especially against the Barkov line that is leagues ahead of his own line

MOD

One team is trying to score a goal, one team is protecting the lead.
1 team has zero rookies playing in the last 5-6mins and I'll let you guess which one, players that are used on pk aren't seeing ice.

MOD, this is your post:

Watch the game, no rookie is seeing ice right now.

Auston Matthews is a rookie, he was seeing the ice. What other rookies are you talking about?

I think it's fair to say neither Matthews nor Laine played their best game today.

You may be right but they are both only 18 years old. I think we can't expect from them that they score in every game. Possibly Matthews was in this game a bit better.
Additionally it's easier to score against opponents like Kazahkstan or Germany than against stronger teams.

He scored few points being on McDavid's wing.

This guy is garbage

yes watching the game I was blown away by how poorly Maroon was playing. Can't handle the puck, can't receive/give a pass, etc

super smart and observant to call the line change though

Komarov is Komarov  who could hate him?

Matthews was quite invisible in the 3rd when Finland lifted their game. But he was overall better than Laine today.

Barkov line needs more ice time KJ.

Pihlström is actually playing quite important hockey there, already forgot his stupid penalties in GER game.

Dont like our D at all and Saros in please.

I feel foolish for even asking this, but where's Jesse Puljujärvi?

I was focused on watching Matthews vs. Laine so I didn't even think of him until the game was about over.

I searched his name on Google News and didn't see anything pertaining to injuries.

Really? Thought Matthews played strong in each zone. Only really negative was his work in the dot. Barkov was a beast in the 3rd but the majority of his chances were produced when Matthews wasn't even on the ice...

well if that is good for mathews then he is nothing special

not a great game for him but my point was he looked better than Laine. I found you could see Laine's youth this game while Matthews looked like a veteran

USA relied on matthews quite noticeably. There's a bit more talent upfront on finland, so it's understandable that laine getting less ice

All things considered, they both played well. Matthews i thought was more noticeable from start to finish. He looked just as good as barkov in the 1st and 2nd until barkov decided to go beast mode in the 3rd.
