GDT: Group B - May 20 - Sweden vs Latvia

Yeah I think we (Latvia) were lucky with that referee call regarding the 4th goal or maybe later they will explain why it was like it was, but still that does not diminish the determination of our guys to fight till the end. Maybe their fighting spirit intimidated the referees too

Just admit it dude, Latvia was dominated. You guys never had a chance. But maybe in the future when you have developed more players.
We never had a chance? It was literally a tied game 30 seconds before the final whistle

The Swedish and their logic

Norway is really weak here, Latvians will show one last push.
I feel you, but thereis a possibility (since it’s been like this for few years now with Latvia) that wheel of fortune will reverse from next year on. There is certain improvement in team depth every year. Hopefully it will overcome that borderline next year.
A bunch of players have minor injuries, mentally they are empty, physically they're tired and on a back to back

I dont know which games you are watching but Latvia had Swedes and Czechs in their pliers but went unlucky or took penalty afterwards, also Russia to certain degree, you make it sound like Swedes controlled the match 4 goals up.

Final result was never in doubt though.

Inconclusive evidence. Refs can't control what they see, they're just watching a tv with replays played by someone from above.
They can't just "zoom" the picture, like they do on TV.
On NHL linesmen have ipads, where they can change the angles themselves.here - not

Some Swedes will hates us no matter if they barely beat us or we beat them. Thus - "haters gonna hate" is perfectly executable here.
You know you are always gonna get a few but really it wasn't all that bad, that's the advantage of being one of the tier 2 teams then being one of the bigger boys because if that offside/not offside goal had of happened and it was Canada,u.s,finland, russia, and especially Canada the howling here would have been off the charts.

There would be specific threads started here over that. Take heart, Latvia doesn't get it bad from the trolls, you ever climb into one of the top powers..................watch out!!

Grönborgs coaching got violently f***ed up by Hartleys it was a tie game until there was 30 seconds left. Also our goaltending wasnt half as good thakfully Markström now has the chance to steal the goaltending position.

We just need better youth, that's it. With the guys we have now, the ceiling is beating Germany in a close game (if we happen to be in the ''easier'' group) for the quarterfinals and having a close 1/4 final like last year. Maybe ailing Slovakia can fall vs us too. Swiss, if they are arrogant. All due respect to the guys but that's it. We need better players, more players getting NHL minutes or first two lines in KHL etc. U18 already showed some progress this year, at least no 2 digit results against the big teams. Some say we're a small country and it's oh so impossible, but if Porzingis wasn't injured we'd have had 4 guys in NBA this year. Basketball is so much more popular sport and more countries play it and there are tons of talent and we still produce world class talent there. If we can produce 4 NBA guys, we can produce 8-9 NHLers and at least play at Swiss level.

You know as good as I know it’s not just about it, all teams have those minor injuries and are tired, but this happening to Latvia in consecutive against big 6,7 except Finland who are also los scoring team so better match-up for you.

You can hope as much as you want, that you will have all the best players next year, but you know it will honestly never happen, never happens with better depth teams too, except maybe Russia.

Lets see if any guys from that U-18 team get drafted in CHL import draft. We might have 1 or 2 good players from that bunch,

Don't worry I just enjoy putting some salt into the wounds. Latvia played well.

I know, it’s getting better and better by small steps every year, which will eventually pay out in future. Latvia is not in Slovakia situation or other teams which are on downward curve.

Great game by Latvia, was Sweden saving energy for tomorrow?
Sweden dominated the second period and looked great but got killed by Gudlevskis. As usual they failed to handle the setback in a proper manner and started playing undisciplined which led to a quick equalizer early in the third period. After this they got even worse at handling Latvias fast-breaks, and subsequently they scored again to take the lead. I don’t really know what happened after this I turned off the TV.

I think this was a great game. Latvia player much more clever than against both the Czechs and the Russians. They realized that they can't skate the whole 60 mins with teams like these, so instead of a rapid start like against CZE and RUS they played very patiently this time, focusing on the defense and waiting for their opportunities. I also noticed how good they were in somehow slowing the pace down. They did not try to rush forward every time they were on puck, but often cleverly chose to to keep the possession for a while, to kind of crumble the focused Swedish pressure.

Regarding the last equaliser, I believe the play was off side, but the referees could barely find any clear evidence for it. In such case, the refs have no option but to call it the good goal.

Not that Sweden or any of the big teams are playing with their best rosters in this tournament but we were thin on center. Girgs had a wedding, Ābols got injured early. Also a misfortunate injury to Daugavins depleted our roster.

But hats off to the boys, they fought well and till the end.
That last minutes goal from Swiss really hurt us. Sad, but we`ll move on.

Yeah, I have no problems with that goal actually. It's up to the accuser to prove guilt after all.

Losing Ābols broke us too, but yeah. Same old story, i feel the same way i felt last year when we played Swedes in QF`s - empty

From the IIHF recap:
"Even though the Latvians won’t earn their sixth quarter-final berth of all-time, they can take pride in staying in the top division every year since 1997."

So proud we didn't lose to Italy, wow.

Nobody has high expectations of us, not even writers for IIHF website.

good game by latvia. but fact is, latvia only beat sweden ONE time, sweden always win against latvia no matter how bad we play.

but when will the swe coaches and swedish people understand that lundqvist is terrible? we are gonna loose in qf if he plays. markstrom is much better. heck lundqvist should bench himself, he should understand that.
