How did you reach that conclusion exactly?
Having seen DEL and DEL2 teams come to Nottingham and lose every game. Admittedly results against other EIHL teams have been more mixed. The main reason I'd put the EIHL above the DEL2 is also its biggest problem, its stacked with imports. You can count most EIHL clubs homegrown players on one hand.

Just to be clear I don't think there's necessarily much in it, just on the basis of games between the 2 leagues the EIHL has usually come out on top. My main point was that DEL2 isn't itself a step forward, it gives him a potential route to bigger leagues, but he'd be taking a risk versus his current very safe situation in the UK.

Like other posters said, I think they are roughly on par. Correct me if I'm wrong but Nottingham is one of the best EIHL teams year in and year out as well.

Regarding the situation he is currently in, I don't think he has anything to lose, to be honest. In case it doesn't work out he will be welcomed back to the very same position with open arms.

Korea finished last year's tournament with 4-48 goal differential and they have a legitimate KHL goalie in net. Other than that those teams are very similar.
Korea were horribad, but managed to disrupt Denmarks game enough to make them struggle to get that 3-1 w.

GB have looked like a fish out of water.

even against Germany.

Denmark is better than Norway today if they played in an Olympic tournament with all their players. I'd rate them 10th in the world behind Germany & Slovakia. Latvia and Norway would round out a field of 12 pretty decent teams for an OG.

GB looked like they were firmly put in their place today. However with a very open Div 1A field next year (Italy, Korea, Slovenia, Hungary & Romania) I would not be shocked to see them back in 2021. Predictions that they will be fighting Romania against relegation to Div 1B I think are a little premature based on today's one game.

And yet when they did pull up their dream team in OGQ they failed quite spectacularly...

If we just go by how strong the NT:s are on paper you have Canada, USA, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czech republic in no particular order easily ahead of them then you have Switzerland also clearly ahead but still sorta in an inbetween tier. (Getting very, very close to the top 6 though). Then you have Denmark, Germany, Slovakia in no particular order so I would say they’re 8,9 or 10.

Maybe GB struggle at this level, but I have a lot of respect for the progress they have made the last couple of years going from D1B to the top tier.

Thats something no one can take away from them! I Think these guys have an experince of a lifetime!

There's been a lot of knee jerk reactions from people today. A team that loses 8-0 to Canada shouldn't lose 9-0 to Denmark. The GB players have only themselves to blame. Denmark didn't even get close to top gear today and this score line only serves to exaggerate the gulf between the two.

Hopefully the players don't get down and are still looking to the France game, which all along has been the target game if survival is an option.

But the quality of the DEL2 is overall worse than the EIHL where he currently plays. Maybe he goes there and earns his way to a better league as it's a better known commodity but it's a risk for him as it could lead nowhere.

I think he's more likely to be tempted by a backup job in a higher league than a move to the DEL2.
Norway is in a generation change and Zuccarello can't play for them. When he plays for Norway, they instantly gain a step. They have a tough tournament, but they also still have some quality players.

Regardless, I think Denmark is stronger. They have more quality players (Eller, Andersen), but Zuccarello is a special kind of Norwegian lemming.

Zucarello rarely played for them, still they were able to regularly reach QF, real Norwegian problem is their depth is getting close to be non existant, when Thoresen and Olimbs retire, what will be left?

Well, Maybe you should have your nose examined ;-)

Well, what a cracking good victory for Team Denmark. Must admit that I didn't expect that after their performance vs. Germany, and GB's reasonably okay performances so far, but fremragende Danmark, velfortjent! :thumbu:

Imagine that some people actually thought GB had a chance. I find it so hilarious.

I have to say, I was one of those people. Mainly, because of great first match effort, and because of the hype the team GB had up until now.

But today team GB were shown the difference in top tier hockey. (I am not including the GB-CAN game, because it would be comparing of uncomparable)

Yeah, Imagine what we could have accomplished if this was the standard of our play during the tournament. A point against Finland on thursday will underline the hopeless effort put in in the first two games.

As much as I like the Danes and Team Denmark (huge fan of Heinz Ehlers, the player, since 1999), I don't think they'll have a chance vs. this dark horse Team Finland. Neither will Team Germany.

(I might be wrong again though :D)

I am sure you are right, but if we have no hope, then why watch it? There is always a chance. The question is how big the chance is. Slovakia then. All it would require is to a win against St them if we had beaten Germany. Now we need to win them both

Eventhough finns have mostly european players based team, they are expected to reach semi-finals. IMO Slovakia is the “dark horse team” (even if the tournament takes place there), the team is not expected to go past quarter-finals. And as it is in last few years, team switzerland are dark horses so black, even my phone will be stolen
