I'm sure at the NHL level they can afford to circulate 3 neck guards. Just change them in between periods. I agree it's annoying, but I would much prefer the comfort of knowing it's less likely that my neck could get slashed on a freak incident, even if it is rare.

Honestly I'd rather take my chances in comfort. NHL players comes off the ice dripping in sweat it wouldn't take long for them to accumulate a large amount of sweat in neck guards, there's only been what 2 real neck scares over the past 15 years?

I guess I'm more on the reckless side, but like Visor's I think protective equipment should be optional not mandatory.

Gauthier killed a whole damn penalty in the second and blocked 3 shots in doing so. He's the best FO man in the tournament and tonight the Crouse/Gauthier/Ritchie line cycled the puck very well against the Americans. Ray Ferraro said it was the best game of the tournament for the 4th line, so I'm not really sure what more people are expecting from our 4th line C and the 4th line as a whole. This was almost a textbook game from them.

He missed a pass... And that's all it took for people to jump down his throat and to forget everything else.

McDavid missed a similar pass and no one batted an eye lash.

It's pretty standard HFboards stuff though.

Gotta give it up I think.

4th line played great tonight and Gauthier did his job well but you won't convince someone who don't want to accept the truth. Because Gauthier is slower than most players, his solid defence, tourney best faceoff ability and PK skills mean nothing......plus he stopped some other players who had bad camps from coming over and is going to play for a hated team in the future...so yeah....

The 4th line was solid IMO, they didn't play much in their own zone and they wore down the USA defenders in the offensive zone with cycling. Crouse has been really, really impressive the kid will be in the NHL. I liked the 2nd line, whenever the Americans wanted to mess with McDavid you got Virtanen right there to pound them up, Hayden got 2 punches in the head from Virtanen and Bowey. This is the type of stuff that makes team successful.

The first period was a close period but the next 2 were all Canada, D was rushing up making odd man rushes. Team looks really good, passing is amazing, Heatherington shutdown Eichel and made him invisible. In the 2nd and 3rd, USA barely had any good amount of time in Canada's zone, Canada just swarmed the puck, got the puck and passed it out of the zone not giving the puck up easily.

This team can be a very dominant team. The Americans before this tournament sounded like a dream team with Hanifin, Werenski, Matthews, Eichel all undrafted skilled players but they didn't look good in their own zone (particular the defence) and looked lost, not physical and the forwards didn't create much they tried to score off the rush it seemed like for the most part. Matthews should play a decreased role, it's obvious that 17 or young 18 year olds aren't going to cut it as your best players.

Americans might face the Russians and might just finish in 5th place...

Demko is a hell of a goalie. How the hell do the Canucks keep landing these guys?

I disagree with this statement, Demko is very lanky and awkward. Definitely should have had Lazar's goal, but a lot of Canadian's shots were low percentage non screen shots from outside the slot. I'm not saying he was bad, because he was fairly good, but I don't think he was amazing like Campbell or Gibson have been in the past.

When he grows into his body though and becomes more positionally sound from experience, then yes the Canucks really got a good one in him.

If he wasnt French he wouldnt be there.

Wrong. Picked specifically for a purpose, one I did not really see until today. He did what he was asked to do.

I predict a very good NHL career for him as a role player. He is not fast or flashy, but he is dynamite on face-offs and with specific defensive tasks.

Can someone tell me why Lazar's goal was not called goalie interference?

bump

As a Canadian fan, it should have been called off but they missed it on the ice and they're not allowed to review goalie interference. If they could review it it would have been called off.

So Russia USA Sweden and Finland are all going to be on one side of the bracket. Canada plays Denmark and then the winner of the Czech Republic and Slovakia quarterfinal. Talk about having a bye straight to the finals lol

lol at fans who think Gauthier was put on the team to score. He was put on the same reason he was a first rounder. He can shut down other teams and be on the ice for key moments at the end of the game. He did his job well.

He was a first rounder for the same reason Toronto traded up to get Tyler Biggs. Just need to find out the reason, then I'll let you know :sarcasm:

Is that true? Wow. Yep definitely what I would ask for as a fan.

Because although he was right in his face, and even brushed him, Demko's position was never moved due to contact, and Lazar was seemingly in possession of the puck at the time.

Of course all of this is speculation since unlike many in this thread I do not pretend to have an intimate understanding of the IIHF's version of the rule.

Pretty much, although I don't really think it matters too much who they play. This is their best team in years.
