Shanahan is just happy with the status quo. It’s amazing what he has turned into. Just a company man who doesn’t want to rock the boat. If he was serious about the SC, he would fire Keefe. There are good coaches out there who have experience winning it all or at least making it all the way. Come on, man.

If he was serious about winning a cup he would resign. He’s so out of his depth in how to assemble a cup contender it’s laughable. Ten years and the team is arguablly further away from being a cup contender than its been in five years. Next he’ll tell Treliving to sign Marner for $12M and their hands and salary cap will be tied to three guys who shrink when the games mean the most. How he’s ruined the team with three top three offensive players but little else is criminal. Start the changes at the top and find someone who knows what they’re doing and holds everybody accountable.

Meanwhile Tavares @$11 mil (12 goals) + Bertuzzi @$5.5 mil (6 goals) + Domi @ $3.0 mil (4 goals) + Kampf @ $2.4 mil (4 goals) = 4 X forwards making $21.9 mil have combined for 26 goals.

So far Leafs have given Matthews a +$1.65 mil raise per year (making him the highest paid player in the game next season) + Nylander a $4.5 mil raise for next year eating up all but $500k of the expected $5 mil Cap increase.

I wouldn't say that, certainly maybe the most talented 4 at anytime, but all things being equal, overall I'd say the 62 - 67 teams, the 77-78 team and the 93-94 Leafs would chew these guys up and spit them out. Talented, tough and tenacious with more will than skill.

Well that remains to be seen. McDavid wouldn’t be the solution on this current squad so the point is our problems can’t be fixed by individual offensive players right now. We need another good defenseman, heck probably two, a new coach and a consistently good goalie which hopefully Woll will be when he returns.

Our zone exit strategy is absolutely horrendous. Teams are clearly doing their homework by taking away the boards but zero adjustments made by the coaching staff as we keep trying to pass it out even when in danger. We're playing like we have 6 Cale Makars lol. The team desperately needs a new voice for this alone. It's painful to watch

Also, what happened to the offense? We can't score more than 2-3 goals anymore? Taking away the two games vs the AHL team, the offense has been awful for weeks. Reminds me of the playoffs last year when we went 7 straight games of scoring < 3 goals.

If we paid the Big 4 more money we'd have more goals...

Exactly the need is D and goalie. Woll masked a lot early in the year and hopefully can cover for more defensive shortcomings. The problem is too much $$ tied up in those big 4, that there is not enough left to acquire a both a no 1 D man and some depth on D. If you haven't drafted them they are expensive to acquire via trade or UFA

We need the core 4 to consistently be the best players on the ice. We need them not to wilt in critical, or physical games.

That doesn't happen, hasn't happened, and no matter who you surround them with, it won't matter, as the results will be the same... I don't disagree about improving the D, and the goalie situation, but it won't really help until the core gets a heart transplant....so either we need to break up the core, or hope that miraculously after eight years it finally clicks(unlikely).
