Post-Game Talk: GROUNDHOG DAY! Oil 4, Lolfs 2

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
And we didn't seem to want to adapt to the new situation at all. We just kept plugging along.
Right. That is a good point. Once things shifted in the cap world, the management needed to be willing to adjust accordingly, but chose not to. That was a massive failure, and reason enough for Dubas to not be here anymore.

I am unsure how much influence Shanahan has on the day-to-day ops, but it feels like it is more than is necessary. If Tre is not given freedom to make the necessary moves, there is kinda no point in the franchise lol.

We need another defenseman, a new coach and a healthy Woll. If those don’t get done by the deadlines we’re doomed.

Obviously didn't like that one goal against Jones, but overall, at worst he gave us an average performance.

The offense is just so cold right now; it's extremely frustrating. On the other hand, we were bottled up way too much tonight which only gives the other team more momentum along with giving us less O-zone time.

Calgary is pretty much a must win if you're Keefe. I think a loss there and he's all but gone.

the extremely depressing reality of it all is we're stuck with these guys

The time to move on from them was last summer. Now we've dramatically overpaid for Nylander, Marner's NMC has kicked in and he doesn't have enough term to command a high price. For better or for worse (it's worse), these are our guys for the foreseeable future
What's even more depressing is once we get through the Matthews Era with only one 2nd round visit to show for it, I doubt whether the owners would let us do a rebuild again. This might legitimately be the only time we can do this thing properly.

And then we signed Tavares for 11 million

If any positivity is allowed they started on time and that first goal was a thing of beauty.

3rd string washed up goalie played pretty good as well.

Could be worse. He could be wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt 😅
Oh dress code would be implemented immediately if I ran this team.

You better look like your going to a f***ing funeral before games.

Save your Mugatu shit for your own time. You're at work clowns.

Please tell me that's photo shopped
Nope. Mr Lululemon 😂

As much as change is needed from top to bottom, treliving just got here, keefe signed for 3 more years after this year, and the big 4 all have full no move. I don’t see any changes to the core 4 until 2025/26 unfortunately. That’s just the reality we’re in

Fun game, building was great.
Better team won, Leafs couldn’t match the Oilers compete level.

Clock is ticking on the Coach.
I thought the leafs had the better scoring chances. Difference is, we don't have capable dmen and goalie.

Btw does anyone here actually want these guys to end up as all-time Leafs scoring leaders? Would rather they pack up their shitstained legacies and leave before that happens
Let's be honest here, that is pretty much all we have.

Anything post '67 is just one long shitstain anyway.

I thought next season was the last year on his contract.

There is more to it than that though...

Oilers owned the boards, in both zones.
Oilers physically dominated us other than Rielly, Timmy, McCabe and a little of Matthews and Holmberg.. and maybe some 4th line minutes.
They just wore us down until they got their goals in the 3rd... like EVERY-f***ING-ONE else does.

Their goalie was definitely better though, you are right on that.

These tone deaf comments are why I can’t get myself to like Mitch Marner.

This front office is going to re-sign him but I don’t want him on the Leafs.
Yeah he’s not a good interview but he always steps up for it.
I’m guessing Matthews, Nylander and Tavares had a different take on things?

Another night with no points for Willy who saw that coming after signing that contract? It doesn't matter how many shots he had he was consistently getting points every single game until that contract.

I don't think we're being bottled up in transition... I think their defensive group is not capable of cleanly starting up the transition game. Rielly is the only one, followed by Liljegren.

Our defense is so cheaply put together. We basically have the following in the right slots relative to their abilities:

1 Rielly
2 -
3 -
4 Liljegren, Brodie, McCabe
5 -
6 Benoit Lagesson Giordano
