This image brought to mind the incident between Wayne Cashman and Dennis Hextall - when he was playing with the North Stars. Hextall was skating over the Bruins' blueline with the puck, and Cashman was using his stick similarly to what we see here. Dennis responded in kind.

Note that the third digit in the display under "VISITOR" has a bulb burned out. The man on the ladder is thinking "Hmmm, can I reach it without climbing down and moving the ladder? I think I can do it!"

I hate the Oilers but man, this photo is great. What’s not to like? Lowe’s popped denim, Gretz rocking the leather, Mess with the hat and sunglasses and the duster. Epic find.

For what it's worth, the I Love NY marketing campaign peaked during the early 80s. It looks like someone modified it to use the NY/stick part of the Islanders logo, which would have been a pretty nifty merchandising trick at the time.

Not sure what's written on the heart or in the lower right corner. Just a little too small and blurry to read.

"I love NY" is clearly legible and the NY is styled with the Islander logo. It almost looks like there's a 'SC' for Stanely Cup with a little logo of the cup. They just beat the Islanders in the Finals who were going for 5 in a row. Maybe someone gave them the hat and he wore it as a joke or a dig.
