"I love NY" is clearly legible and the NY is styled with the Islander logo. It almost looks like there's a 'SC' for Stanely Cup with a little logo of the cup. They just beat the Islanders in the Finals who were going for 5 in a row. Maybe someone gave them the hat and he wore it as a joke or a dig.

That was my thought. Kind of like what we see in “The Last Dance” when Jordan is wearing the Pistons 3-peat shirt to mock them.

During his rookie season, Bobby Orr received a lot attention from the Boston media. On October 24, 1966, "The Boston Globe" provided what - apparently - was a feature story with a number of photos taken at the apartment Orr shared in Nahant (a half hour drive from Boston) with Ross Lonsberry, Joe Watson and another young fellow who looks a lot like Joe.

"Exhibition game between Memorial Cup Champs with a few add on players like Orr.To play in the MLG,Ballard made them wear Marlie jerseys. Actually, #2 was Orr's preferred number prior to joining the Bruins. He wanted to wear #2 when he came to Boston, but it had already been retired (Eddie Shore). As I recall, he was not 100% for the game against the Russians but played anyway."

The Leafs' last Cup.
Stemkowski, Armstrong & Cup.jpeg
Without expansion - and the draft which cost Toronto some important players - I think Punch Imlach could have squeezed out another championship from his collection of veterans and up-and-comers. We see here George Armstrong and Pete Stemkowski.

We use to yell that at Nighthawk players in New Haven in the early 70s. Never realized it came from NY, but its no surprise.
The fans at MSG loved the Rangers' d-men who were very physical. Harry Howell wasn't one of them. Bill Gadsby and Lou Fontinato were very popular.

Man, great photo! Where'd you dig up that one?

Let's see, spring 1984: We're got three Oilers' stars, left to right, as follows: Bryan Adams, Indiana Jones, Doug McKenzie.

From this article: Who is Kevin Lowe, the player, coach and GM? In-depth profile of Edmonton Oilers Hall-of-Fame d-man | Edmonton Journal

But the larger version of the picture I can only access on Google search. Just searched for Kevin Lowe and it popped up quite early, in the fourth row. Not sure how it works with different algorithms and such, though.

Messier may be chuckling at the memory of Glen Sather's hair in the late 70s:
