Bellows, MacInnis, Kitchener Rangers, 1982.
Why didn't Brian Bellows play in the '82 WJC that year?

Out of curiosity, why were the Rangers getting hyped in SI at this moment? It'd been 27 years since they'd won the Cup, and the club wasn't doing that well at the time, were they? This is the first edition of "Sports Illustrated" I ever saw (or at least remember seeing)View attachment 384932 .
Reggie Fleming. Missed out on a ring with Montreal, but earned one with ChicagoView attachment 385087
He was at the final camp but he had a shoulder injury, so I think that was the reason they didn't take him. He was 17.Why didn't Brian Bellows play in the '82 WJC that year?
Yeah, you're right, there is a resemblance, but he is not Maurice's dad.The older fellow in the middle looks like it could be his dad.
Rod Gilbert's smiling face was on the January 30, 1967, edition of Sports Illustrated, which - presumably - means that the decision to feature him, and - in particular - his team was made some time in December, 1966. The New York Rangers were doing very well that month - winning 9 of 14 games. Between the 7th and the 25th (yes, they played Christmas Day) they won eight of nine. Gilbert was hot himself - in the first half of the 1966-67 season - reaching the 20-goal-mark before anyone else in the NHL. In the second half of the season, he really cooled off - finishing with 28 goals.Out of curiosity, why were the Rangers getting hyped in SI at this moment? Don't know if he was at the beginning of his career, but - many punches later - he was by the end of his career.Just a bit deranged.
Duane RuppView attachment 385745Bounced between the NHL and the minors for nine seasons, before expansion made him a full time NHLer.
