Reading still hard for some. Clearly says AHL deal. Still no NHL deal.

THE KINGS have signed Gravel as it was known would happen all along. Just a matter of working out the details. Now we will see what the final bits and pieces are going to be but he will remain a member of our org.

I don't see how. I mean nobody thinks that Gravel is going to be on the Kings next season or at least not to start the year so it seems like everyone has a firm grasp of things. This contract keeps him in the org which smart money knew would happen all along.

He wasn't signed as a free agent by MCH, he was signed by the Kings.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he could still sign with another NHL team right? I mean an AHL deal is just that, he's slated for Manchester but if another team came calling...

Technically yes, It makes Gravel's camp happy cause it gives him options, also the Kings are happy cause he choose Manchester.

Everyone win's.

The alternative is pissing off both sides, and Gravel just goes straight to UFA.

Yep which is what I think cns was trying to point out earlier in this thread. The Kings still won't have his rights past the deadline this summer and he'll be a UFA after that point even with this deal.

He's already 22. I'm sure he can look at the Kings, and with 4 younger defensemen on the team already, plus a veteran or two, plus a guy like McNabb, I think it would make sense for him to ask where he would fit in.

He had a good year from what you read around here, so he's got options. Who knows if he has those same options a year or two from now. He might fizzle out and never play a game in the NHL. If he's not going to get playing time with the Kings, or doesn't know where he fits or whatever, I'm sure he wants an extra buck or two.

I could hardly think of a better situation for him than LA. Regehr, Mitchell, Greene which are his slots are all near retirement. The Kings are one of the best teams in the league and probably the most defenseman friendly team in the league considering the amount of support they get from their forwards. Doughty, Voynov, Martinez, Muzzin, McNabb are the only locks ahead of him. After some seasoning he'd be battling for a spot behind Muzzin and McNabb with Forbort most likely.

Is the consensus still that Gravel is ahead of Forbort on the current depth chart?

I for one think he is based on what I've seen of their development and the last rookie camp
