I think that ends a 18 game winning streak for Milwaukee?
I believe it was actually 19.

This is definitely one of the best Griffins teams I've seen since I started following them closely. Right there with the calder cup teams, lots has to go right come playoff time but this team is right there with those teams right now.

Started pretty slow but theyre cooking with peanut oil now. Love how a couple of Cossas best games have been head to head with Wallstedt and Askarov as well

For anyone concerned about Mazurs weight, he was absolutely bullying guys last night. I don't think it'll be a huge problem. He was my 2nd player of the game after Berggren. Bergy deserves to be in an NHL middle 6. If not with us hopefully he can net us a good return.
Haven't we had already some discussion about that weight, how it's just not an updated number?

People should just get over it. Statistical fluke, just uncorrected and not updated for some reason.

He maybe did weight that as 17-year old.

Mazur himself has said that he needs to add weight, and that he struggles to add weight. Even if his officially listed weight on the Grand Rapids site is inaccurate, it's still a topic that Mazur himself has discussed.

I'm not the least bit worried about Mazur being too light in the NHL. It's all part of the development process.

So what’s the number? Would take less than a min for the org to update it if it were wrong.

172lbs.

The old Eliteprospects number people are referring for. I already found out number from Denver site which was more.

And it's about a year since he was there, proably early season number too. Those won't tell anything.

Look how he plays.

If he is only 100lbs but will win all the damn battles... who f***ing cares? He is doing things right. It's a talent.

USA Hockey had Mazur at 182 for the 2022 WJC. I think it's obvious he still has to gain some strength/muscle mass whatever to be able to play his game and have the same impact in the NHL that he has had in college and so far in the AHL. His stated frustration with lack of weight gain shows he knows that.

It can take years for late-developing athletes to add corresponding weight for significant increases in height.. During that mullt-year process listed heights/weights are often out of date or all over the map. Mazur was listed at 5-9 142 when taken 3rd OA in the USHL Draft at 16yo. He was taller but still a twig at 18, main reason he didn't make much of an impression in his rookie USHL season and went undrafted.

Mazur's natural instinct is always going to result in him playing bigger than whatever his official size ends up. That's going to motivate him to keep adding strength, if only to be able to better avoid injuries. Age-wise he should already be close to his career playing weight, so it's not like it's something fans should ignore or consider insignificant. Anyway, we'll get a better idea where he is at when he checks in for physicals in September.

Henkka, don't take that 182 number as gospel. it could be a typo. It could be what Mazur told them. It could be what a third-party thought he weighed and gave it to the USA Hockey flunky in charge of putting out the roster list. It could have been an intern confusing his weight with someone else's. Thing is, we don't really need to know right now, and aside from Mazur and maybe the team's trainer, no one knows what he weighs today.

He was on WWP this summer and said he was 170 and hoping to get to 185 for this season.
Maybe he dropped some weight due to his injury? I'm completely spit balling as I don't remember when he was injured, and how long he was out...... But as I type this I think I may be off here. Regardless, my point was going to be that perhaps, he as someone who struggles to gain weight, ends the season much lighter than when he is beginning the season. And perhaps the lose of training time did not allow him to put weight back on preseason.

The determination to not believe the GR website and Mazur himself, in order to stick to some cockamamie narrative about his weight being just fine is…. weird.

Yeah, I said cockamamie.

It's not that it wouldn't help him to gain weight. It's that he's already asserting his physical game against bigger and more experienced players and he's only going to get better.

The discussion originated with what Mazur has to work on. Weight and strength are probably top of the list for him. I haven’t seen anyone truly worried that he won’t accomplish what he needs to accomplish in that department, but it’s something we know he struggles with. So it’s an added challenge is all.

USA Hockey doesn’t actually do height checks and weigh ins for WJC, it’s all just on the honor system. Definitely don’t put any weight into it.

Thanks for that info. That's what I wanted to get across to Henkka in a follow-up advising him not to take reported weight as gospel. It might be the same with Hockey Canada and their WJC rosters, with not a lot of free time at the final selection camp to do physIcal checks or updates from what they might have done at summer camps.
