I think where Edvinsson is playing is driven primarily by what the Wings feel is best is for his development. We can argue if it is better or worse for him to be in Detroit but I don't think slow walking him a bit will hurt, and I can't imagine he won't be up at some point.

funny how vehemently people disagreed with me in the offseason when I repeatedly said that no matter how he played Edvinsson would need multiple simultaneous injuries to see NHL ice with how much the Wings overstuffed the roster with meh Defensemen

hopefully it doesn't come to that but I feel like at this point people aren't giving nearly enough credence to the possibility that he asks for a trade at some point

My argument is also this. We are in what is quite likely a push for the playoffs. Riddle me this... would you rather Mo have the 2 full seasons of NHL experience he has now to further this push or would you rather he have had 3 years of AHL experience and this is his first year of NHL hockey?

Delaying Ed's NHL development is silly. It's silly to argue that you want more experience on the roster and then out of the other side of the mouth argue against what will likely be our 2nd (if not 1st) most important defenseman for the near future gaining said experience. If our true window is opening in the next year or two, why are we delaying Ed getting NHL reps for the sake of Maatta, Chiarot, Holl, whoever who won't or at least most definitely shouldn't be getting meaningful minutes at that time?

For good or bad Yzerman keeping 3 goaltenders, so Cossa doesn't have any chances to get in NHL even for couple games, same with Edvinsson, we got so many defansman, so almost no chance. There's a reason for that. Last couple of seasons Yzerman was bringing kids to NHL, sometimes too early, now he's doing different things

Cossa is not even close to NHL ready. He isn't even starting full time in the AHL. Ed is stuck until trade or injury, it is what it is at this point. It is very possible Steve expected us to have a longer term injury by this point on the blueline, which makes having depth ok. We can all wish they would waive Petry and bring Ed up, but that seems unlikely given Steve traded to get Petry.

Only the ones that don't understand how NMCs work. Yzerman had Petry dumped in his lap for practically nothing and was too polite to tell the Habs to F off.

That is why I said hope. We don't care how, it just needs to be done somehow.

We don't need Ed to perfect being an AHL defenseman. We need him to perfect being an NHL defenseman. That is not something he can do in the AHL.

I don't care about what sort of 4th or 5th round pick we can squeeze out of Maatta. We need Ed to integrate into the top 4 so the team can get better. And pointlessly waiting to improve the team is just that. Pointless.

That's what Yzerman is doing. Deal with it.

I don't understand why you won't add a piece that would improve your team and help you attempt to reach the playoffs. Why would you purposely hamstring your pro team like that? If Ed wasn't ready, I would completely understand, but he is ready and he is able to markedly help the big club, right now.

As I said earlier, the transfer market for guys in front of Edvinsson is not yet there. Yzerman will sell people for future assets and then promote Ed.

But time for that is not now.

I don't agree with that. I get that you don't want to lose an asset for nothing, but you're the General manager, you have to make tough decisions, like drafting a German D-Man at #6 that no one thought you would do.

Waive one of our shitty DMen if you somehow can't make a trade and bring up Edvinsson from Grand Rapids and try to improve your record.

If Ed's WAR is like 3 points and Petry's is -2 points and we miss the playoffs by 2 points, are we really going to sit here and say "shucks, too bad we couldn't find a buyer for Petry earlier in the season, but smart move on Yzerman to keep a player down who would have helped us make the playoffs, wouldn't want to lose Jeff f***ing Petry for nothing." Balderdash.

Petry has a NMC, if anyone's getting moved it's Maatta (no NTC or NMC). I dunno what happened to him, but his puck decisions are horrendous. Petry can be 7D and sit in the pressbox where he belongs.

We're only 1/4 way into the season, I think Stevie makes a move in January timeframe.

If he does ask for a trade, I hope it ends up like the Drouin trade. Not at all concerned about Stevie's trading prowess.

Same as Ghost. Or Ghost may not prefer it, per se, but he's been better on the right than the left with us.
Yeah, and that's truly a rarity. Most dmen who play their offside in the NHL these days are being forced there by virtue of the fact there are more lefties than righties in hockey, but they aren't necessarily better there. I think Trevor Daley was the last guy on the Wings to be better on his offside.

They said before the season began that Ghost has played lots of right in his career and that he preferred it.

Why is Cossa playing so little lately? Only 1 game the past 2+ weeks, with Hutchinson again having started back to back. If he is hurt I get it or sick, but if not, he should be playing 2 of every 3. Not sure why we always need to work people in so slowly. Not like we have lots of great home built stars that were brought in slowly.
