-2 last night .....whouda thunk ? :sarcasm:
Don't you have better things to do than make multiple posts about how bad he is at D in this thread? I feel like having 1% of your posts in this thread alone without actually talking or replying to anyone or backing up your claims with facts is kinda sad, tbh.

That would be horribly incorrect. PERIOD.

He's not perfect in his own end, and what he doesn't do well is what most think of as "good" defense, i.e. he's not particularly strong and will get beat physically in certain areas of the ice, and he's an aggressive player with the puck and will occasionally get burned for it. That said, he does a lot of shit very well in his own end and is a net positive. He reads the play at a high level and snuffs out plays before they even have a chance to develop. He challenges zone entries effectively instead of backing up and when he does lay out a hit, it's an actual hit that changes possession unlike so many high volume hitters who merely bump guys along the wall after the puck has already been moved. His anticipation is perhaps his best attribute and he's quite capable of picking off a pass, going the other way, and converting. He's excellent at recovering pucks in his own end, and he's dynamic at exiting the zone, able to effortlessly skate or pass it out.

Compare that to the guy we effectively got in exchange. A big oaf who never knows where the puck is nor understands where it's going, always a step or two behind the play. A guy who is supposed to make big hits but actually rarely does, and when he does it takes him way out of the play because he has the fast twitch muscles of a corpse. A guy who has no anticipation whatsoever, unable to recover pucks in his own end and who's reliant on his partner to get them out.

Shayne Gostisbehere is ten times the DEFENSEman that Rasmus Ristolainen will ever be. Like, that shit ain't even f***ing close.
Ghost was incredible the last time the Flyers played the Penguins in the playoffs as an opposing fan, you could see the Penguins' forwards confidence increase every time they saw Ghost was defending then.

Is he going to be dealt? Upcoming UFA and has put up really good point totals last season and again this season so far in Arizona.

I'm VERY curious what will happen with him and what a team will pay for him if dealt

I hope he's traded and re-signed by the Coyotes in the summer. He's been a fantastic acquisition and if they don't trade him and just re-sign him, I wouldn't be mad about it.

I'd love for them to offer Ghost@50% + '23 3rd to get a late '23 1st, but that's probably a pipe dream.

Ghost @ 50% probably returns 2 -2nds or maybe a 2nd + 3rd is my guess.

Kyle Calder effect.
Big point getter on a bad team?

Maybe a team needing a PP specialist for the playoffs gives a 3rd.
a 3RD for a D in the top 20 scoring (among D)?

And it is not just PPP. He has 15 even strength points and 10 PP.

And a big point getter on a bad team is a negative? Do you see who he is passing to? It is impressive he is putting up points.

I think the difficulty with Ghost is that there has to be the right team that is looking for a PP/Offensive D man that isn't know to be great defensively. Based on quality of comp. and o-zone starts, he's still one of the more sheltered D men on AZ. Admittedly that's stat watching as I don't follow AZ enough but I saw a lot of him in Philly.

Past deadlines have shown that teams looking for rentals heading into the playoffs typically aren't looking for a guy they need to shelter or a PP/Offensive specialist. Right or wrong, they tend to look for the Manson, Lindholm, Chiarot, type players.

It only takes 1-2 teams though for there to be a market so deadline's are rather unpredictable in that regards. Injuries can also create a need where one didn't exist before.

I don't think I'd give up a 1st, but I'd love the Rangers to get him at the deadline. Would be a huge stabilizer to the 3rd pair.

Would a 2nd & a prospect or 2 be enough to get him without retention?

How about a 2nd and Jones for Gostisbehere at 50% retention?

He’s also played equal parts LD and RD.

I agree about the market. Not sure I agree about the player. He’s 2nd on the team in 5v5 mins per game and 1st in overall 5v5 mins. And is just a -3 despite the team being a -26.

Like I said, I'm only "stats watching". According to the data I see:
1) He, along with Chychrun play against the weakest competition
2) They get the most ozone starts (albeit AZ starts more in the Dzone than Ozone on the whole).
3) His most common line mates 5v5 are Chychrun and Keller.
4) He's 4th among AZ defensemen in +/-

His numbers are certainly good overall, I'm only questioning how much of his usage affects that. You clearly watch him often so I won't argue with what you say, was just listing where I was coming from with that comment.

I'd wonder if the Coyotes have had a better ozone start percent since Chychrun returned. The team has been rolling since he and Schmaltz returned (relatively of course)

Calgary
1st + Cal Petersson + Moverare for Ghost + Ingram

This is the moment Blake will be fired.

Giving up 1st rounders and youngsters we really need for someone who could be had for free.
Blake didn't take him then and he certainly won't offer something for him. This train has left.

Rangers can afford without retention (and tbh i didn't include it b/c i wasn't looking to pay more lmao).

Jones + 2nd is a little bit steep for me without retention, but its at least workable/negotiable
