While being amazing on the Yotes isn't exactly a ringing endorsement, this is the guy Florida should go after at the deadline or in the summer.

He's an interesting pickup for someone. Probably needs to be a team serious about contention with holes in defense. Specifically powerplay/puck movers.

Maybe Florida would have interest. Their cap/asset situation is difficult though. I can't imagine they want to give up a ton of their remaining picks. Maybe they're a better target for signing him in the offseason.

Toronto maybe? They have room/need if Muzzin misses the whole season. They can't really afford to waste seasons, and they won't be shy with assets even if they're in a big fight for the wildcard rather than safely in.

LAK needs LHD, I can see them having interest, but as an older rental, I don't see a great fit.

At the deadline...probably a 1st and a B prospect. Maybe more depending on retention. And definitely some salary going the other way, since Arizona is at the floor.

Thought I was just imagining things when I saw him last year and thought he was pretty good for the Yotes. Thought he had to be much worse to be dumped to the Yotes. Now I hear Flyers fans miss him so he’s got to be pretty decent. Must be that contract.

I expect the Coyotes to retain 50% too!

He was pretty good most of the time, stellar on many nights and passable at worst on few. I'd never believed he could end up as a cup dump... But it happened, good for Arizona, they are going to get something sweet for him.

They already drafted Artem Duda, just for taking on Gostisbehere's contract, whose upside may be the equivalent of Gostisbehere. The Russian factor made it a reach where he was selected.

Kyle Calder effect.
Big point getter on a bad team?

Maybe a team needing a PP specialist for the playoffs gives a 3rd.
I think you underestimate the value of D at the trade deadline.

Defenseman Ben Chiarot has been traded to the Florida Panthers in exchange for forward Tyler Smilanic, a 1st-round pick in 2023 and a 4th-round pick

Of course, he won't continue at a ppg pace, but he had 51 points last year (good for 18th in the NHL). Easily will command a 1st plus.

It only take one idiot to overpay at the deadline and gm's love to over pay.

But if ADA is 2,3,4, then Ghost as rental with retention feels like 2 and 4.

Curious to know what y’all think he could fetch at the trade deadline. Currently 2nd in points for defenseman (I know it’s early).

His play with the coyotes has been amazing. If the coyotes were in a different position I would want him to be resigned.
Imagine Coyotes want a first round pick? He's good on powerplay. Many teams be in on him.

Leafs offer Holl + 2nd round pick.

Az loves their second rounders and gets a fill-in fodder.

Leafs upgrade on defence.

Az says no, TML doesn’t counter.

Has there ever been a team that sabotaged their own assets the way the Flyers have for the last half decade? They successfully fooled themselves and the rest of the league into believing the best homegrown TWO-WAY defender (elite offensively, more than passable in his own end) they've ever drafted was completely worthless, all because he rightly ignored bad coaching. And we really have no idea what Ghost is capable of in the playoffs, because Dave Hakstol and AV are f***ing morons who crave loser no event hockey.

he's HORRIBLE in his own zone.....PERIOD

That would be horribly incorrect. PERIOD.

He's not perfect in his own end, and what he doesn't do well is what most think of as "good" defense, i.e. he's not particularly strong and will get beat physically in certain areas of the ice, and he's an aggressive player with the puck and will occasionally get burned for it. That said, he does a lot of shit very well in his own end and is a net positive. He reads the play at a high level and snuffs out plays before they even have a chance to develop. He challenges zone entries effectively instead of backing up and when he does lay out a hit, it's an actual hit that changes possession unlike so many high volume hitters who merely bump guys along the wall after the puck has already been moved. His anticipation is perhaps his best attribute and he's quite capable of picking off a pass, going the other way, and converting. He's excellent at recovering pucks in his own end, and he's dynamic at exiting the zone, able to effortlessly skate or pass it out.

Compare that to the guy we effectively got in exchange. A big oaf who never knows where the puck is nor understands where it's going, always a step or two behind the play. A guy who is supposed to make big hits but actually rarely does, and when he does it takes him way out of the play because he has the fast twitch muscles of a corpse. A guy who has no anticipation whatsoever, unable to recover pucks in his own end and who's reliant on his partner to get them out.

Shayne Gostisbehere is ten times the DEFENSEman that Rasmus Ristolainen will ever be. Like, that shit ain't even f***ing close.

I'd do Denisenko/Heponiemi + Kiersted + 2025 2nd.

Not giving up another 1st, we may need it to move Bobrovsky eventually.
If that's not enough, we take the chance he comes home.in free agency.

I think Zito has to go cheap like Schenn type, 750k for 750k type deal

Offensive powerplay top 4 LHD don't seem to have a massive trade market right now (Krug, Girard, Ghostisbehere), but Ghost being a rental contract probably makes a lot of teams more interested than they would be otherwise.
