Recreational hockey shouldn't be that price prohibitive. Probably 10-11 cases of beer for fees. It the cost of the damned sticks that get me. Skates can be pretty dear if a kid grows quickly. I once had to buy 2 sets in one season for my kid.
I'm not an alcoholic so I'm unable to calculate costs by number of beer cases. But in the 3 places I've lived in my adult life (California, Washington, and New Hampshire) one 6 month season with 1 game a week is between $600 and $1000, so $1200-2000 for a year. That much money for a single person to play one sport is price prohibitive to the vast majority of people. Compare that to my soccer league (1 game a week but only for 4 months) which is $50 a season for outdoor or $75 a season for indoor, or $150 and $225 per year.

Kids equipment can expensive I'm sure, but getting used can surely help that. I got my 2 young nephews full sets of used roller hockey equipment for $70 each. My own equipment was low tier for everything except skates (mid), gloves (mid), and helmet (high), and cost me ~$600 once. And I don't buy top of the line sticks, I get one that has the curve and flex I like that is on clearance or sale somewhere.

Looks eerily similar to this year...if I'm reading correct.

Group a
Canada 1.
Finland 4.
Germany 6.
Slovakia 8.
Winner div 1

Group B
USA 2.
Russia 3.
Sweden 5.
Czech Rep 7.
Switzerland 9.
That looks right to me, but I think Austria will be back because they aren't playing relegation this year. Not positive though.

Whomever wins gets a tougher Group next year - assuming Sweden finished 5th.
As I understand it, it goes A,B,B,A,A,B,B,AA,B. Gold is A, Silver & Bronze winner are B, Bronze loser is A, and so on. Spots 5-10 are determined by finishing position in the preliminary round. Highest position in your group, and then goal differential being the tie breakers. Those 6 spots are set for next year: Sweden 5, Germany 6, Czechs 7, Slovaks 8, Swiss 9, Austria 10.

Rinks private?

Rinks private?
As in not owned by the government? Yes. I'm not aware of any city/state run rinks anywhere I've lived. They have all been run as a business, and ones that seem like they barely break even at that (though I've never seen their financial statements).

In hindsight, Group A was stronger than they were given credit for prior to the tournament - Finland has been terrific while Sweden embarrassed themselves.

There is no way to avoid having 3 strong teams in one Group - while the other only has 2. We need MORE strong teams.

Places like Minn are way more affordable.
My town (in greater Toronto area) has 5 ice pads (3 arenas) for a population of 70k and they are always in demand. The town owns them.
There are also sponsors of teams (like every other sport)

If the US scores first, Canada will crack. Levi is not a championship caliber goaltender. I like our chances with Knight.
LOL... You keep telling yourself that when you're behind in the 3rd period and the game is almost over.

So what does +270 mean? What does -335 mean?
When a money line is a positive number then the odds are the amount you would win if you were to bet $100 and were correct. For example, a money line of +200 would mean that you would make a profit of $200 if you bet $100 and were correct. ... For example, a -200 money line means you would win $100 if you bet $200 and won

Not to continue to derail this thread, Massachusetts has well over 50 town or state owned rinks. There's a bunch of town owned rinks in RI as well

I don't think there are any city/town owned rinks, at least in the American West.
Wow... I never knew that. I've never seen a privately owned arena in Canada other than the NHL arenas and in most cases the city owns those too. Every community arena I've ever been inside has been city owned and subsidized....

I believe a few of the rinks in the GVRD are privately held. Owned by RG Properties (Planet Ice) or Canlan.

We take their gold medal. Then wake up with their birds and go to Timmys in the morning. Then back to the US of A.
