Well my HF USA friends. Congratulations to your World Junior Gold Medal Champions!

Full marks on a great game plan, executed without controversy.

I’m still proud of our young men and am confident they will be contenders next year, but what an amazing effort by your group tonight.

It’s been a pleasure.
Cheers.

Byram was so lost it’s almost like he wasn’t even on the ice for that first goal
On the second goal, Byram made a sick one hand pass to Cozens. Who took the puck, saw a hit coming and just softly gave it away to avoid the check. Was the game losing play by Cozens. USA went into smart conservative hockey the rest of the way.

Canadians finally played like a bunch of first round picks. Lost their blue collar identity

These NHL Network analysts aren't very good. It's easy to have "smothering defense" when you're playing teams without major offensive threats. I thought USA really exposed the Canadian defenders tonight. They were downright bad in their own zone. Couldn't deal with the speed or the forecheck at all. Lost footraces, lost puck battles, turned the puck over. Canada smothered other teams because they always had the puck. They looked very beatable when you made them defend.

On the first goal Byram was in the dressing room at best.

Whatever. Drysdale laid a complete egg tonight. Gave it away several times in his zone. Got toasted wide twice by Americans. Got himself stuck on the ice and was a statue on the first goal. Was a minus 2 on the game and make zero impact offensively. His simple game worked vs the JV schedule but once he faced a good team. He played shook. Just awful. Cozens too. Krebs and #12 all laid eggs tonight. McMicheal played selfish and couldn’t hit the the ocean from the edge of the beach.

He didn't make an impact all tournament offensively, and that's not what he was asked to do (outside of being added to the 2nd PP later on in the tourney). You can watch any defenseman who plays 25+ a night and note a couple of times that they got beat wide, gave it away in their own zone, etc. He didn't get himself stuck on the ice, the forward(s) failed to get the puck deep and he was playing on the far side, hence why Byram was able to get off the ice. He can't possibly bail in that scenario just to get off the ice. If you watch ANY player who has been on the ice defending for 90 seconds + of course they're going to be a statue lol. You're really not pointing out anything other than known facts in hockey, thus, you're salty, I get it and just leave it at that..

Was Canada's best player. Holloway was flying too.

I was very pleased with Holloway’s game. Absolutely rocked Beniers and was creating chances every shift it seemed like. He needs to work on his stick handling with McDavid and Draisaitl in the off season, but man he’s an easy player to like. He’ll be a fan favourite.

Disappointing Quinn was put on that line at the end and proceeded to kill plays and turn the puck over on that line as well, he was noticeablely the worst Canadian skater.

The effort was there for the most part, just one of those nights where the Americans capitalized on their deflections and bounced whereas the Canadians didn’t. It’s really that simple and happens in hockey. Americans deserved the win and played a solid game.

Forward wise besides Byfield I dont see any bonafide superstar tbh
Byfield won't be a superstar. I am talking about scoring line forwards. There will be at least 5 or 6 players on that team that will be scoring line forwards good enough to be on a contender.

To be honest for all the 1st round picks Canada had I dont see many of then becoming legit NHL stars
You know this is exactly what I was thinking as I watched this game.....Canada's forwards are fast and skilled, but on the small side. The U.S. just put them in a phone-booth, particularly down low. There's a point in every game where you simply have to win puck battles to create more space and scoring chances, but for the most part the Canadians didn't really win many of them.

In the pro game of course, when the ice closes down, puck battles are what keeps forwards in pro hockey and having productive careers. So a lot of these Canadian forwards have a lot of physical maturing to do before they ready for the rigors of pro hockey. But I guess as first round draft picks, they'll be given every opportunity to succeed.

How about the excuse that they are all kids and this tournament after a year of hockey being closed down due to COVID doesn't determine their futures... Were you talking shit to Avs fans after MacKinnon's WJC performance too? Kaliyev wasn't bad either.

I agree it’s a short tournament and there’s some external factors, but you’re lying to yourself if you weren’t disappointed in Byfield’s tournament. He was a 2nd overall pick, returning player, after a dominant season in the OHL.

Only Canadian with jump seemed to be Mercer.... everyone else kind of just seemed slow. Are the Americans that much faster?

I thought the Americans have been itching to play a true NA game. They have flashed it at times, but they finally got a team that wanted to play the same style and it is what this 19 year old group has won a lot of games doing. I thought Finland did a good job changing it up when they got in this mode in the semi-final, Canada felt they were better at it and they weren't until the USA bunkered in the 3rd in my opinion.
