Better goalkeepers????

Price blows any of them out of the water and Holtby and Crawford are better than any Russian goalie either.

There are probably another 5-10 Canadian goalies better than the Russian guys as well.

Canada has better forwards, defense, goaltending and coaching than the Russians and anyone debating that is either crazy or a homer.

Will price play? Will he /montreal wanna let him miss any rest after the last season and play without a full training camp. But holtby is gonna win the vezina anyways.

Man Vasilevsky looks damn good to me. And what is he, like 21? When he reaches his prime, if Canada has 2 or 3 better, I'll be surprised...

Ok. Don't see only NHL, but sometimes WCJ-20. This is is best hockey in the world. And if you don't see Vasilevsky and Makarov - you lost a lot.

Team canada hardly ever goes with youth anyways. Most of the gold medal team wasn't and wouldn't be on the radar for team Canada at the WC anyways.

It probably hurts team USA way more. Canada normally prefers guys in their prime when they can actually choose out of everyone. With a few exceptions.

You're saying McDavid isn't a difference maker? I would argue he's a bigger loss to Canada than the guys the Americans are going to have to do without.

And make no mistake, most of the players on that team were there to audition for a spot on a World Cup roster. And a bunch of them played so well that the coaches will now have some very tough decisions to make.

That said, when you look at the cumulative hit to the US and Canadian teams from this stupid World Cup format, it produces an unfair tournament. The Russians get to bolster their team with guys like Kucherov and Vasilevsky and Sweden gets to use guys like Forsberg and Landeskog. The Finns have any number of young players they get to choose from. I don't think the suits had any idea how dominant the young players would become in just one season.

NHL is the best hockey in the world.

I have seen and heard many times about the Russian guys that we haven't seen and how great they will be. Didn't really turn out that way in 2010 or 14 did it?

McDavid was the exception. Generational talent and such even then Babcock would probably have him on the wing or playing protected limits cuz he never trusts youth.

All the guys auditioning are old enough to make team canada other than mcdavid. Hall Duchene Marchand and orielly were the 4 main ones right ?

Lol) They are invincible. Nobody sees Kucherov, Tarasenko, Anisimov. They are all January-hockey men. I repeat again - see WC U-20. And i Saw Vasilevksy few times - he is the best. Yes, he had many troubles. I remember how he got 4 pucks for 10 minutes from Canada in final game.

Isn't Panarin great?

Great is probably a little strong but yes he is very good.

He played in the NHL last year so I am not sure what your point is.

Well, he came from the KHL and finished top 10 in scoring in his first NHL season.

I have seen the WC -20 and seen Canada dominate it even with the fact they are often missing 5+ of their top guys to the NHL.

Great what does that have to do with Russia having guys in the KHL being better than Canadian guys from the NHL?

Panarin was in the NHL, he is an NHL player, he is not some unknown guy that is going to show up in the World Cup to beat Canada.

Prob that he played in Russia till he was 24 ? And then put up what a 70 point season. (Helps playing with kane) But then you have the belovs and such that come and don't do great too.

He was good enough to become Kane's linemate in his first season. He's certainly not one of the Belovs

Dominate? Canada won 1 time for the 7 seven years....USA, Finland, Russia, Sweden won the final last 7 years....

Nah I agree I was just more making the point he came from playing in the khl till he was 24 and then came over and was good. (Prob win the calder) So khl players can compare to nhl player's.

While the belov statement was more a counterpoint that it doesn't always translate.

Are u talking about that kid that had like 60 saves when Sweden won the World Jrs in OT? The one who also played in WHL? I thought his name was Markov?

4 of the last 10, 7 of the last 20 and 16 of the last 35 since they started sending their all-star teams. Also a medal in 31 of 35 of the tournaments since 1982. That is pretty dominate in a sport where there are 4-5 competitive teams.

Throw in the fact that as mentioned they are often doing this with 4-5 of their best players playing in the NHL and yes I am fine with saying dominant.

Either way if that is your rationalization for Russia being better than Canada in the upcoming World Cup it is weak as hell and irrelevant as Russia has not been as impressive as Canada at the WJHC.

Look at the russian junior team 2011...Everybody - stars of hockey, NHL or KHL. But two player die in Yaroslavl Crash.

I looked not very impressive.

Being a star in the KHL means nothing. It is a garbage league with garbage players.

That will be because for PR/political reasons they will want to split it fairly equally.

Yanks have a lot, LOT of great young players just now...Still might be something of an aberration. How many of their A-Team players would make our A team...

Kane....ah....ummm ....hmmm ????
