Are u talking about that kid that had like 60 saves when Sweden won the World Jrs in OT? The one who also played in WHL? I thought his name was Markov?

Yes, of course him. Andrei Makarov. Great keeper too. When Vasilevsky got 4 pucks from Canada - he goes to ice at the end. And final game was his when Russia lost in OT to Sweden 0:1. Iron nerves.

4 of the last 10, 7 of the last 20 and 16 of the last 35 since they started sending their all-star teams. Also a medal in 31 of 35 of the tournaments since 1982. That is pretty dominate in a sport where there are 4-5 competitive teams.

Throw in the fact that as mentioned they are often doing this with 4-5 of their best players playing in the NHL and yes I am fine with saying dominant.

Either way if that is your rationalization for Russia being better than Canada in the upcoming World Cup it is weak as hell and irrelevant as Russia has not been as impressive as Canada at the WJHC.

Isn't it like Canada 16 or 17 WJ Golds and RUS/CIS/CCCP one less?

Russians had some impressive teams in the past 6 years at WHJC. Doesn't mean they will win the World Cup this year though. Mediocre defense is their main weakness

Russia since 1982 year played in final game 19 times. And?
Last 10 years they played final 6 times. And?
Since 2002 year the played final 9 times. And what does it mean? Canada dominate?

You just told us how great 2 goalies are by posting about their loses?

You are really bad at making a solid argument

And that isn't as impressive as Canada's record at the touranament.

Why are you guys even arguing?

There is no doubt Canada and Russia have been the two most successful nations at the WJC. Our rivalry is good for international hockey. Both countries are powerhouses at the WJC.

He said look at the U-20s as a reason that Russia would be better than Canada so I pointed out that we had a better track record there.

Pretty sure goalie with sixty + saves isn't held accountable for 1-0 OT loss in GMG with whole hockey world watching...Unless u expect him to score???

We don't need to gloat. Let's be classy in victory and enjoy this win. We're the greatest hockey nation and hockey is our game.

By treating our opponents with respect we respect ourselves. Let's enjoy another Gold :).

Vasilevsky was only 17 years old. This was bad match for him, but he had fine second keeper - Makarov - who saved match for him and could win a final.

No,no, no. I said Vasilevskiy is great keeper because he was great in Junior World Championship U-20.

16-13

USSR got 4 before Canada sent a all-star team and just sent the Memorial Cup champs.

If memory serves prior to about 1977/78...when the St Kitts FinCups won silver...those earlier tourneys weren't official so IIHF doesn't count them

That's awesome go take a look at goalies who have been great at the U-20's its a pretty mixed bag at best.

I will gladly go with the guy who was great in the WJHC, great in the NHL and great in the Olympics in Price that Canada has right now over the so-called great potenital of Vasilevsky.

If he is the big scary threat that we have to be worried about I think I am more than fine with that.

Vasilevskiy played bad? I saw last 2 games of Tampa - he plays awesome. My first Olympic Games were 1998 Nagano. Russia were very good team, brilliant, but Hasek was better. Vasilevskiy plays better than Hasek.

Was it like a bad Olympics for Hasek? For a guy that doesn't know Hasek he would look like an awful goalie but he was a goalie mad scientist. Unorthodox but genius. Are you the Datsyuk guy again ??? Hasek is in the conversation for best goalie all time too.

Dats better than Mario? ...Vas better than Hasek?

U do have a bad habit of leading with ur chin...

Not sure any goalie has ever been better than Hasek at his peak?

Hasek was genius. He won alone OG-98 for Czech Respublic. Even they played terrible and the best team was Russian. But final...Bure and Co made nothing versus Hasek. The wall. 0:1
