Mikko Koskinen really surprised and impressed me with his performance during the tournament. I didn't think much of him when he was in the NHL but he looked really good for Finland.

Oh, yes. One thing we have over you guys in this tourney is that every year in our scraped-from-all-around team there is one or two non-NHL guys who play with such skill and especially heart that it's hard to imagine the teams won't go take a looksy if they or anyone just happen to have landed on their rights.

Of course there is the other side that you have to watch a FEL guy with ö's in his name to rush with the puck into a sea while the play-by-play guy drops the NHL household names the said sea is consisting of.

Canada was flat out better this game. Congratulations. The game didn't really feel like a win from the start for me, but I am a bit disappointed that we couldn't even get one goal. I was hoping for Last Minute Laine to show up.

problem with finnish team is they always play defense games and only attack on opportunistic.

Are you norwegian? ;) ... then why are you trolling?... Canada was better on the night... full stop... if Canada were sooo dominant, the score would be different... in fact, Canada scored from an isolated chance...if Finland would have scored the game would have been different... having said that, Canada D-men are miles away from ours

Gotta say Putin has rock star swagger. Any time he pops up in some even't, there is dis strange atmosphere, like he was Emperror of rome in roman times for roman people. Unlike any other president, barring perhaps USA president.

More like he's the Kanye West of presidents.

The new world ranking from 1 to 20:

Code:
1 Canada 3495 0
2 Russia 3380 0
3 Finland 3355 +1
4 USA 3290 +1
5 Sweden 3275 -2
6 Czech Republic 3210 0
7 Switzerland 2910 0
8 Slovakia 2870 0
9 Belarus 2820 0
10 Germany 2815 +3
11 Norway 2765 0
12 Latvia 2730 -2
13 Denmark 2700 +2
14 France 2655 -2
15 Slovenia 2530 -1
16 Kazakhstan 2470 +1
17 Austria 2440 -1
18 Italy 2345 0
19 Hungary 2325 0
20 Poland 2175 +2

So if I'm right, the 2017 groups should be like this?

Canada
USA
Sweden
Slovakia
Belarus
Latvia
France
Italy

Russia
Finland
Czech Rep.
Switzerland
Germany
Norway
Denmark
Slovenia

It's most likely wrong, but I had to split the two host nations. Anyway, I believe that the division of the top nations should be this.

"If we were better we would have won."

Great insight there.

Agreed :laugh::laugh:

He arrives, the fans go crazy like never during the 60' of the game, he holds a 5-minute speech, disappears, comes back, hugs Perry, disappears again.

Crazy that Canada can win the tournament without their best players and without most people really caring, whereas Europeans care about it far more.
Nobody cares. And i don't think that this Canada team was weak. Very, very strong team. And who are "best players"? Maybe only keepers you can add. But field players were great.
We had best players: Ovechkin, Dats, Mozyakin, Anisimov, Kuztetsov, Bobrovskiy...Dit it help us?

Really bad game for Finland.
This game isn't that what out lions have played earlier in the tournament.

Hockey is brutal game when you don't score you don't win.
Our defenceman's ( Hietanen,Pokka,Lindell,Jaakola) shots are mediocre muffins.
Only Finnish dman's who can shoot the puck are Jere Karalahti, Rasmus Ristolainen and Sami Vatanen.
And that's something what makes me very worried.

I don't still get it why Pulkkinen didn't never get that role what he deserved.
Pulkkinen isn't 4th line workhorse he's goal-scoring sniper but how you score when you don't get ice-time in top line and coach wont trust you.

Kari Jalonen is lousiest coach what Finnish lions ever had.
Thank god he retired in national team and i hope bottom to my heart that he wont comeback.

Team Canada proved again that they can play international rink and ice.
Canada clearly was better team they shutdown Finland's offence and forced Finland's players to play near the boards every single time when Finland had the puck.
Canada really outscored and outplayed team Finland and that how they played was brilliant.

Congrats team Canada you are only superpower in hockey.

Uhh...none of Canada's defense would make the A team. All of our forwards, except for maybe 2-3, wouldn't make the A team either

Crosby, Toews, Benn, Seguin, Tavares, Getzlaf, Giroux, Stamkos, Bergeron, Carter, Spezza, Thornton, Couture, Doughty, Keith, Weber, Burns, Letang, Subban, Giordano.
Who of them were in last year when Canada won without chances for any other team?

Crosby, Toews, Benn, Seguin, Tavares, Getzlaf, Giroux, Stamkos, Bergeron, Carter, Spezza, Thornton, Couture, Doughty, Keith, Weber, Burns, Letang, Subban, Giordano.

Funny that Giroux is considered one of the best even tho he never makes the best on best tournaments.. I mean I think he's good enough to play in World Cup for example.

He clamped his arm down on Stone's stick and went down easy.

How about when that Finnish player slashed Stone's stick out of his hands? Where was the call there?

Or how about when Komarov mugged Marchand and they both got 2?

Or Scheifele going for a loose puck getting 2 minutes for slashing?

How about the interference (the pick and roll in basketball, right?) pulled off by Finland all game long?

You really think that with this men you'll played better? We have very much top forwards and goalkeepers, but we can't win since 1992 year.

More than half of the team would be replaced. Crosby, stammer, Keith, Toews, Webber, petriangelo, subban... That's not even mentioning we have our D level goalies. The list goes on.

That said the team is what it is and others, namely the USA could have fielded a much stronger team. I wish this was a more important tournament in NA, but even as someone who wants that, it takes a back burner to all other sports going on at the moment.

He is one of the best. They don't simply take the best. That's why Kunitz made it over Thornton, Giroux, MSL, Hall, Seguin, etc... last time.

Except when he won the gold medal last year. And isn't that Giroux in your avatar?

Congratulations to Canada for a well deserved win. Finland was maybe the victim of a coach with a well working defensive plan, but a very stubborn way of playing a bit too simple and passive offence. Well maybe the defence was so good because of it exactly, who knows? But anyway, I believe that the Finnish lines were not optimally built really. I think Laine should not have played with either Barkov or Jokinen. That line was way too slow with their skating, and they had huge problems with their zone entries. And in fact Barkov is not a true playmaker that I believe would be a perfect player to compliment the great talents that Laine has. I see Barkov as a way overrated player even if he is capable to be a top international level center at some point. Koivu was a much better center in this tournament. Probably Laine should have had Koivu and Granlund as his linemates. Other options could have been Laine, Koivu and Aho, or maybe even Laine, Granlund, Aho.

Wel anyway occasionally a bit disappointing offence from Finland in this tournament, because of not using optimal line chemistries. But enough with the explanations, Canada was the best this year. :handclap: Hopefully we will be able to challenge Canadians still in the World Cup, even if it has this idiotic gimmicky structure this time.

LA won Stanley Cup without big names. Twice. My Russian team with big names, stars - twice lose.
