Before this thread will go nasty, I'd like to share these words I copied from a junior tournament flyer, written by Finns and addressed to Canadians:

---

"Canada and Finland share not only the icy part of the northern hemisphere, but also a love for the great game of ice hockey. The way it's played in Finland owes a lot to the Canadian way of never giving up and always wearing the jersey of your team with pride and responsibility. Indeed, even the championship trophy of the Finnish elite league (SM-liiga) is called Canada Cup (Kanada-malja).

No wonder this trip to the birthplace of ice hockey has been a long-awaited dream of our AA minors. Earlier tournaments in Sweden and Germany have already proved the importance of looking beyond the home rink, and we look forward to adding more to that experience. The boys, their parents and the team staff have put a lot of effort to make this trip possible. But it would have been in vain without the hospitality of our Canadian hosts.

We would like to thank the host families and the organizers of the Richard Bell Memorial Tournament for inviting us over and giving our sons the opportunity to meet fellow young hockey players both on and off the ice. Thank you so much!

Now let's play some hockey!"

---

Those last words pretty much sum up what I expect from this game.
Let's keep it civil and may the better team win!

I look forward to a good clean game, hear that Perry, and no injuries, all out leave everything on the table type of game. Look forward to everyone's comments.

I am looking forward to a good game.

I feel pretty confident that there won't be another upset like a few days ago. McDavid will score a hat trick.

I think that it's funny that Finland still has no coaches in NHL while coaches like Tortorella have jobs, while Finnish coaches have proven time after time that they are able to consistently able to give their team the coaching advantage against much stronger player material.

We'll put our faith in Lauri Marjamäki to become the first one, I guess.

Suhonen did not exactly set the World on fire back in his day.

This will be a close game because classy and honorable Canadians won't run-up the score. Maybe Canada will settle with a one-goal lead just to keep it close?

Even if they completely mail it in due to not wanting the gold, they likely still win as team Finlands defense is a joke in this tournament and it will be a cakewalk for guys like Perry and McDavid to just stickhandle the puck over the goal line. And if Koskinen starts the game, Finland is doomed.

You probably haven´t watched their semifinal game...

when you don't even send your B team and you still have a chance to win the Gold , it would be boring if we sent our real team

this discussion is going on for years now. Why can´t people just enjoy good hockey games without starting the same discussion all over again?!

after last year's Kovalchuk fiasco and anthem snub, the rules changed this year. The losing team will leave the ice before the anthem of the winner is played. So, let's not go into typical hf hysterics when that happens. HF is typically prone to bouts of hysterics.

Has Marjamaki any connections to NHL organisations outside the Blue Jackets? Maybe Ville Nieminen could be the first one (or actually second one) because he has NHL background. Or Jussi Jokinen if it is true that he will become an excellent coach.

Lauri Marjamäki is actually an excellent, super modern coach, he's very young as well. I haven't seen Ville Nieminen or Jussi Jokinen have coaching achievements worth mentioning.

He might have some connections as the coaching staff for Team Finland starting next season will in addition to Marjamäki feature Jarmo Kekäläinen, Saku Koivu, Teemu Selänne, Teppo Numminen and Kimmo Timonen.

Suhonen did not exactly set the World on fire back in his day.

I don't think of him as a good coach at all, maybe that's just me. Very outdated, basic. Nowhere near the top coaching. A relic.

Finland don't really think it'll be close

The first period will be very important. If Finland survives that, I think Finland will win.

Pretty much. Canada has been terribad in second period, Finland incredible. If it's even or close after the first, Finland leads after second.

I know how good coach Marjamaki is. But even if he would be the best coach in the world doesn't mean there is interest from NHL.

Indeed, that's what the issue is. There's been speculation that numerous modern Finnish puck control coaches would be an upgrade over some old school "effort" simple hockey coaches in NHL. Well, some Finnish expert say that Finnish coaching is considered the best in the world so one would imagine someone would be interested. Let's see how Marjamäki does in World Cup on NHL ice.

Looking forward to this game. Gold is up for my 2 favourite teams in the tourney. Really admire how the Finns play, but as a Canadian have to root for our team. But wouldn't be heartbroken if Finland take it. I feel they have been the best team this tournament.

Also interesting to see how the youth play in a gold medal game.

Laine, Mcdavid, Aho, Domi, Reinhart.

this gonna be tough one. i'm feeling confident tho. i hope no bad penalties. let it be fair whoever wins it.

Check again, right after the Independence (from which era the crowned arms flag is from) there was such a great drive for a monarchy that a monarch was actually elected.

I leave it for you as a homework to look up who and from where.

I know this, and he never took the crown because of WW1, and thus Finland has never been a monarchy.

It was close anyway; closer than Laine who needs six to go past Schibachyov to win the tourney in points.

Hoping for a great and even match till the end. I don't know whether I want a scoring competition for the entertainment (which we'll lose) or a solid defensive game for the best chance at winning...l

I do want to see more from McDavid though, didn't see anything wonderful from him the last game. Also hoping that Canada goes for the whole 'let's all try to mess with Laine'-tactic and just let's the rest of our team walk over them. That'd be mighty amusing. I have no idea why they even bothered with that in the first place, it's but one (great) junior and they used so much effort when they could've been focusing in the game itself :D
