I wanted another shot at the Finnish team and was pretty confident that a rematch would give us a different result...confident up until I witnessed the Canada-USA 1/2 final. I'm afraid this collection of Canadian youngsters are gassed, there's nothing left in the tank.

It will be tough for Laine to score 5 goals. He has yet to score a goal against a top hockey nation. All of them have been against teams like Belarus, Germany, Denmark etc.

He has gotten decent scoring chances against top level opponents though, just hasn't converted them so far. He probably won't score 5 goals, but wouldn't be surprised if he netted one or two today. Here's hoping!

After watching the Finns stifle the Russians... I have no hope for Canada. Perry-McDavid-Hall have to activate beast mode for them to win.

5-1 Finland.

I heard a lot of times, that if two pretty even teams meet 2nd time in the same tournament, team who lost the 1st match, will most likely win.

;)

I think finland wins. I hope they do anyway.

It's propably same kind of game that the first one and the 1/2 final was. Canada is very strong in the beginning, but gets tired when game progresses. I think it important to Canada to score goal or two in the first period when they dominate the game. They managed to do it against USA, but not against Finland and we saw what the results were.

and then the Dave Cameron defensive 'sit on a lead' scheme kicks in and it costs us. Remember World Juniors 2011? Fortunately we were able to recover yesterday, but I'm forever referring to Dave Cameron's defensive scheme as not 'sit on a lead' but '**** on a lead'.

I think I rather be down by a goal with 10 minutes in the 3rd., then up by 1 in the 3rd.

2-1 OT win for Finland. Granny with the golden goal.

Go boys, go!

I wish the Coat of Arms flag still had the crown on it. How cool that would be in Olympic Jersey or World cup jersey?

Was wondering why is there a crown there, last I checked Finland hasn't ever been a monarchy

e:

ah silly me, it's for King Patrik the First.

...and the final it is.

I've been predicting Finland to win gold from the beginning, so I'm not gonna change my prediction now. Finland will complete the 2016 gold hat trick.

The only thing I'm pissed about is that I did not bet money on Finland before the tournament, even though they were my pick (however I can't remember whether my provider offered that bet... I don't think they did)

Not very optimistic for Canada after a horrible semi final performance. I consider Finland a known quantity - they will play well defensively and be opportunistic on offence. Canada, we don't know. If they play aggressively there is no reason the forwards couldn't consistently beat the Finn defencemen. If Canada sits back and just runs around, as has happened far too often, Finland will easily defend against that and the inexperienced Canadian defencemen will inevitably make mistakes.

Best guess... 3-1 Finland.

Check again, right after the Independence (from which era the crowned arms flag is from) there was such a great drive for a monarchy that a monarch was actually elected.

I leave it for you as a homework to look up who and from where.

But the coat of arms itself is from the 16th century, a mix from the Folkunga Lion and the coat of arms of Karelia. The various dukes and grand princes were in habit of slapping their ducal and grand princial coronets on top of the coat of arms as is the wont in heraldry. It just proper that it was upgraded with the kingly one if just for show prior its removal altogether.

Before this thread will go nasty, I'd like to share these words I copied from a junior tournament flyer, written by Finns and addressed to Canadians:

---

"Canada and Finland share not only the icy part of the northern hemisphere, but also a love for the great game of ice hockey. The way it's played in Finland owes a lot to the Canadian way of never giving up and always wearing the jersey of your team with pride and responsibility. Indeed, even the championship trophy of the Finnish elite league (SM-liiga) is called Canada Cup (Kanada-malja).

No wonder this trip to the birthplace of ice hockey has been a long-awaited dream of our AA minors. Earlier tournaments in Sweden and Germany have already proved the importance of looking beyond the home rink, and we look forward to adding more to that experience. The boys, their parents and the team staff have put a lot of effort to make this trip possible. But it would have been in vain without the hospitality of our Canadian hosts.

We would like to thank the host families and the organizers of the Richard Bell Memorial Tournament for inviting us over and giving our sons the opportunity to meet fellow young hockey players both on and off the ice. Thank you so much!

Now let's play some hockey!"

---

Those last words pretty much sum up what I expect from this game.
Let's keep it civil and may the better team win!

I'm optimistic for the Finns, if they play like against Russia and the first game against Canada, they will win.

Btw, everybody speak always only about Patrik Laine. Sure, he has played so far a good tournament though he didn't score against the top nations. But it's not always only scoring, against Russia he gave a very nice pass to Jokinen who had only to put the puck in the more or less empty net.

But there is also another young star of the team that won the U-20 whc. If I'm not wrong he is in the same age like Patrik Laine:

Sebastian Aho. He played a very strong game against Russia and even scored twice. I'm also impressed of his performance at this whc especially in the game against Russia.

A year older, 35th pick by the Carolina Hurricanes last draft. (Looks to be a steal at that currently.)
