By the looks of photos and video I’m thinking the lens was out of play during the incident, but parts of the camera looks to be somewhat over the ice depending how camera is pointed?

The part that the puck actually hit isn't above the ice surface. Case closed. Bad call.View attachment 303271

It's not case closed at all. The rules say an object above the ice surface. Not the part of the object above the ice surface. It's made that way for a reason. The refs aren't going to come out with a ruler and measuring tape after watching the replay to determine if that part is above the ice.

Does no one know what a structural object is?

People keep posting that rule as if it justifies the call.

A camera is not a structural object. That rule is irrelevant.
The Russian goaltender on that gwg looked like a structural object that’s for certain. Why in the hell did he go full statue? Two strides forward and Thomas doesn’t have a prayer to even touch that puck.

Not according to the people that make the rules.

But sure. Let’s say it was. Makes up for the garbage holding call that gifted Russia a goal earlier. Guess it’s even.

If you are talking about that holding of the stick call I think it was the right call.

Rules are not meant to be understood by only whoever wrote it. If there is uncertainty over the understanding of the rule, the writers are liable of not doing their job properly, which is to make rules objectively understood.

I don't care about prior calls. I'm not saying Canada didn't get ****ed on some calls/non-calls, because they did. But I'm only discussing this specific instance.

These are the two possible interpretation of the rule (note the bracket, you'll understand how it can be interpreted differently) :
1) A player who lifts the puck from the defending zone and hits the scoreclock or [any structural object above the ice surface], causing a stoppage of play, will not be assessed a penalty
Under this interpretation, the puck hit a structural which has a small overhang above the ice surface and could therefore be considered a "structural object above the ice surface".
2) A player who lifts the puck from the defending zone and hits [the scoreclock or any structural object] above the ice surface, causing a stoppage of play, will not be assessed a penalty
Under this interpretation, the puck hit a structural object (the camera) while the puck was out of the ice boundaries.
In my opinion, interpretation #1 goes against the spirit and intent of the rule, which is, I assume (with a high level of confidence) to avoid having to project the trajectory of the puck had it not hit it before leaving the boundaries of the ice. It simply does not make any sense. In that case, one could argue the netting above the glass behind the goal line is a structural object and no penalty shall be assessed, yet a penalty is called if a player shoots on the netting from the defensive zone. Or, to exaggerate things, if a player shot a puck outside the ice boundaries, but it hits a pipe that has a part above the ice surface, it could be interpreted as it not being a penalty. It makes no sense.

So you acknowledge mistakes happen and thus you should quit whining. The better team won.

Those penalties by Dorofeyev and Denisenko at the end were the most Russian thing I've ever seen.

While watching, I thought there was no way in hell he was going to get to that puck in time.

It was one of those WTF moments.

Glad it happened in our favour.

Have to credit Thomas for believing that he could.

Yes, they were. They played better hockey than Canada. Canada does other things better than Russia. Which is why they keep winning games like these even though they are the worse team.
Canada does other things better like....play hockey? Canada’s game was interrupted by a ludicrous amount of chintzy penalties. At ES, they were as good if not better than Russia. A gold medal= better team

Russians have celebrated in front of Canada’s bench in past years after scoring a goal. I have no problem with Canada rubbing it in when they win!

Russia did it to the Swedes in the Semifinals so my gratitude for this Team Canada!

Eriksson om ryska firandet: ”Det gör en förbannad”

Russian 2-1 Alexander Khovanov celebrated his goal wildly by repeatedly kissing the Federal emblem on the sweater, while enthusiastically sliding right in front of and past the Swedish booth.
