Too bad we will have to talk about a camera instead of an exciting game otherwise. Just a bunch of kids really, shame. They all played hard..but bad/controversial calls and untimely penalties happen. What a finish

Nah, Hayton clamped down on the stick. Unless you want to see a penalty on the Russian kid for putting his stick to the side of Hayton.

The Refs were more involved than I like to see, but a stick to the midsection is supposed to be a penalty every time.

Calls were missed. Some questionable calls were made. That's hockey. Reffing didn't give Canada 3 goals in the 3rd

The camera wasn't directly above the ice surface. It was behind the glass.

The puck went out of play before it hit the camera.

Should've been a penalty.

Some of it was over the ice. Upon replay you can see that it hit the part of the camera that was behind the glass. Where do you draw the line? What if it hits the part of the camera that's directly over the glass? Do we need replay goal-line technology for the glass now?

See how far that rabbit hole goes?

Well typically the big story is... the very capricious IIHF officiating. The camera non-penalty offsets the ridiculous holding the stick penalty in my book so it's a bit of a wash and I found it rather miraculous that, after getting penalty after penalty in the first Team Canada suddenly stopped breaking any rules. I always say that the officiating is the real wild card in all these tournaments and that remains the case now but as a Canada fan I don't feel that this win is besmirched too terribly much. Very exciting game no matter what...

Congrats to team Canada for a huge win against the team that always plays hard against us.
Classic game to say the least.
Gold!!!!!!

I get that the Russian's were screwed out of a 6-on-3 for the final minutes of the game, what I don't get is how that equates to the Russian's being screwed out of the gold medal. The Russian PP has not exactly been lights out dominant, and even if they score...the game is tied. It's not like the Russian's score one goal and it's sudden death and the Russian's win the gold. Am I taking crazy pills?
that means you are abandoning Russians to use their last chances which is not a sport

Nice effort by Canada. I'm impressed, I thought they were done after down by two.

To people still talking about the camera, all I can say is LOL. When the only thing you can hang your loss on is a potentially missed delay of game call you need to give your head a shake. At best the game is tied. Calls are part of the game. It's like a Canadian fan hanging the 6-0 loss on the offside goal, ridiculous.

There will be more chapters in the Canada v Russia hockey rivalry.

This win was especially sweet though, down 3-1 in the 3rd period after already losing 6-0. It was a heart and soul never say die attitude to pull this out.

So proud of those Canadian boys they earned it. Russians battled their hearts out too, that game could have went either way.
Absolutely, Russia shouldn't feel too bad about a great tournament and a hard fought final. Sweden too, who only lost one game in overtime. Arguably the best team. But full credit to the Canadians who rebounded from the 6-0 embarrassment to get this result. True character, esp. with all the knives out on the ready of it didn't go right.

Define "structural", it is super unclear.
Structural would be any physical object. The issue isn't whether the camera was a structural element. It's whether it's "above" the ice surface, and while part of it is depending on its angle, it wasn't hit on a part that was above ice surface.

Russians were a lot weaker other than the huge guy who couldn't skate and are far less skilled

Well no i don't think so, skills with speed and size, goalies was a question mark looked bad at canadas 4-3 goal. No offence on Can side, played a good game and the winning culture are impressive, Maybe from the extensive hockey program and lots of hard games? But best teem won.

Lol. The hubris of Finnish fans here over a few gold medal wins in recent years needed to be brought back to reality. Get over yourself.

Frankly I'm surprised they didn't win given how many of their players play against men while Lafreniere only plays against kids
