Despite what some of the posters on here say, the rest of the world should know that us Canadians are fans of your players too. Sweden in particular is probably the second team to root for for us Canadians.

Guys like Zetterberg, Backstrom and the Sedins are hard not to like!

Congrats, Sweden, on a great tournament and for fighting through key injuries.

Wow, I have to say the whole swedish staff now is kind of cowards, they are saying everything is IOK's fault, that is't the worst game Sweden played because of this with Backstrom, and that IOK has ruined the final for them. I mean, come on, as a coach you must be able to get the right mental strength in your players. The way the head coach now is acting I can see how he must have affected every player. What a moron. Sure he can be upset, but to act like this, what the... what has he told his players "we're already beaten, go out and lose?". He acts like it.

As though Backstrom was going to be THE catalyst of that team, exposing all those team Canada weaknesses....so silly isn`t it:shakehead

Geno Rada tweeted this pic, Canada's busiest highway during the Olympic hockey final!

Wow! NEVER seen that before!

Right, it's not ok to tell them that close to the game, I think some abroad reporter even dared to suggest canada would be behind it, which is so ridicoulus, but what I mean is, it's the coach's job to keep cool, to get the players to think right. If he's this upset (he's really fuming!), he must have affected his players. I'm starting to feel ripped off, we could have gotten a nicer final.

Canada with pretty 'meh' celebration.. Why's that? Usually you rush with joy from bench towards your goalie but they just slided slowly to Price.

probably because the game was pretty much over a while back. the end was very anti climactic

Odaat: no no, it' not about that, it could have been Eriksson, it's about a teammate not playing and everyone getting so emotionally affected by it. No one thinks Backstrom is a messiah, losing Zetterberg was WAY worse. This is strictly an emotional business!

Backstrom's absence absolutely affected the outcome both practically and psychologically. He's the number 1 center on an already injury plagued squad.

(Canada still would have had a superior roster either way, but to think Backstrom was immaterial is wrong.)

this is weird. The Backstrom story. it is not illegal substance, just medicine for him, and to tell the team 30 minutes before the final? Somwthing is not okay.

Pretty simple. The medication contained a banned substance, he took the medication during the tournament. Tests were likely done after their semi final game and the results came in before the game. He was informed and rightfully removed from the game. It's a ****** situation and one I'm sure Backstrom and the staff of Sweden are embarrassed about.

That was quite a shock delivered to Team Sweden just before the game.
It was more than just missing 3 top players.

Good for Canada, but the circumstances were unfortunate.

imaging that, but Canada´s game were perfect today.

I'd like to thank the Albertan government for opening the bars at 5am  (probably the first and last time), and I'd also like to thank the Canadian mens hockey team for providing me with immense joy in an otherwise extremely dim season as an Oiler fan. I don't even give a **** where the Oil finish this year anymore, I'm just ecstatic I got to cheer for such a completely dominant team. Cheers guys. Hold your head up high Sweden, you had a lot of injuries

Since i m almost, soon a proud swedish citizen this is tough. Canada were better and you can talk about why tip the cows come home, Swedes had a lot of problem before the game, but they had lost such key players Clutchplayers and leaders before the games opened so this was good result(bad final game) by swedes!

Give to the Swedes playing with just two centers as well! Silver for this small great nation is a cause to party

Thanks to Russia for giving me an excuse to drink at 5am! Good job by our Canadian boys to get the job done!

401, is it? wow. just wow.

Not to be a party pooper or anything, but Montreal's 40 is always pretty tight with traffic but rarely on a Sunday morning at 8 in the Winter... honestly. The ''busiest'' highway in Canada had no cars on a Sunday morning... big deal. Did Reda expect there to be a boatload of cars or something? I don't get it. Even moreso if Canada's playing for Gold.. This isn't a Wednesday morning with everyone rushing to get to work.
