Well I think this all bought in Team Canada still would have beaten even a healthy best lineup Sweden..but it was not just the absence of 3 of Sweden's top forwards but the crucial positions they all play...centre. ..so if you took out Crosby, Toews, and Getzlaf from the Canadian team. ..maybe Sweden's depleted offensive attack would have equalized the play at least...you cannot expect a team minus its best 3 centres to score much.. STILL this was a terrific Canada d-corps and Price was very good and steady as the last line of defense..and so Canada deserved its perch on top of the hockey world...

Canada was missing two of their top 5 centers - Stamkos and Tavares. The difference being that Canada has the depth to replace them with other world-class centers.

Pt: what happened is Backstrom. Like I said, swedes are too emotional, the whole team got a chock very close to the game and didn't play like they should have. The coach is now standing on press conference saying it's a "miscarriage of justice" by IOK. I'm still not clear on what exactly happened...

His third gold medal team for Canada. If NHL players head to South Korea in 2018, expect him to be involved (for better or worse).

Now Edmonton will never get rid of him. Ugh..Btw..Regardless of who Sweden iced, Canada would have adjusted their game. All respect to Sweden for being a great hockey nation as well as the Finns.

Swedes just looked damn tired. Did all got the flu or what the hell happened? The best viking (Zetterberg) gone, Swedes needed a leader out there against a great hockey team like canada got the best of them.

Sorry swedes, in the end you weren't unbeatable.

Good game by canada Lousy by Sweden. WHAT HAPPENED?

Tired?? From what?? A game against the Finns in which not one player broke a sweat with all the collapsing??? They got schooled in 3 zone hockey, case closed IMO

bottom line, team Canada owned the boards in all areas of the rink and it wouldn`t have made a lick of a difference if all hands were on deck, not like Sedin/Backstrom or Zett`s would have suddenly found a way to fight through that insane defense

****ing rights boys! Canada was dominant after the first 10 minutes of the game. What a game, such a great atmosphere at the bar!

Sweden brings a D man like Johnny Oduya who probably couldn't make a Team Canada3 or Team USA2 and some actually think Sweden was a serious threat to win Gold.

Actual ranking of the top 4 teams in the Olympic tournament should be;

Canada

Finland

USA

Sweden

Agreed, as a Jets fan having seen Johnny O play you just new there were going to be some free pizza dished up.

Congratulations Canada, you played a great game and a great tournament. Price is the answer to the questionable canadian goalies of the past. The referee's had nothing to do with it, they where very good, it was embarrassing to see swedish media and hockey fans whine about it before the game.
As for the injuries and excuses... sure both countries would have
liked to have their best in a best on best tournament. But that will probably never happen, hockey is (thankfully) a physical game. Injuries happen. I would have loved to see one of my top 5 favourite players (Stamkos) play. I understand why fellow swedes gripe about injuries because the drop-off in talent between replacements are huge (H.Sedin - M.Johansson vs Stamkos - St.Louis). But that is all because Hockey is Canada's game, and swedes can not get upset about Canada saying so until Hockey is Sweden's nr.1 sport and can produce enough depth or quality.
But i hope Sweden and Canada will face off in the next Olympic final, and i hope it will be a more exciting game to watch. Enjoy the moment Canada. I wish i was there to take part of the celebrations.

gotta be honest, Canada wouldn`t have had to, this was one of the most disciplined team I have watched on the big ice....nobody chased the puck all tourney, played the perfect Olympic ice style

I just woke up and saw the score. Congrats boys. We're Golden again. Well done. You've made your country proud! Go Canada Go.

Also congrats to the Swedes and Finns on their Silver and Bronze medals. Lets get NHL hockey going again. woo! :yo: :handclap:

I can't believe you would admit that. If I slept through this game I would at least lie and say I saw it.

Congrats on the great tourney. There is a reason Sweden and Finland are always up there in the international tourneys. You guys develop some great hockey over there. It's never a done deal playing you no matter who is in the lineup.

The difference is that there are 10 canadian hockey players for every swedish hockey player ... so when we get so many injuries we don't have a chance ...You would be favourites even with our best team but today it was just too much difference ...
Congratulations on the gold ! Silver was still better than expected for us !

Well said. :handclap: Sweden still produces the best heavy metal in the world, so you'll always have that to fall back on. :yo: Not to mention, your women.

I have no doubt he is. It's friggin Nicklas Backstrom not Mario Lemieux. The guy would have trouble making a 2nd Team Canada.

Ok what our coach means is IOK chould have told them 24 hours before, not 2 hours before gamestart. This affected him and the team so much, it must have affected play. I wish we could do a re-match right away tomorrow, you would still win but would say a lot better swedish play. But I do wish swedes could stop being so affected by things like this...

You're sure about that? It just hit me I saw an interview with Larionoc a week ago and he talked about the really great players and mentioned Kane, Crosby, and Backstrom. Funny.

As for being affacted, Ulf Samuelsson was hardly a superb player in 1998, yet when he couldn't play, guys like Forsberg and Sundin was so sad and upset they played the game afterwards like complete ***** and lost. What is up with weak swedes!

Helluva post by a classy poster. Wouldn't expect any less from a Swede. :)

Congrats on an outstanding tournament!

If Canda couldn't beat this swedish team with their three best centers out, and all of them being top calibre, it would have been weaktastic.

You know you have problem when Patrik Berglund or Marcus Krüger is your first line center and Jimmie Ericsson plays on the first line...

Yeah that's true. And Daniel Sedin without his brother is 50% of himself. You have to admit Sedin-Sedin-Zetterberg would have been nicer...
