Probably the first game in quite some time that Samsonov was the Capitals best player.

Don’t care that it slightly deflected. He should have still had this one. He looked like Capitals Samsonov in this one and gave the Capitals the win tonight.

I knew pretty early on through reviewing goals that this was probably gonna be the softy of the night.

But the Milan Lucic goal on James Reimer put up a good fight. Part of me thinks that maybe there’s a shooter bias on that one. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I don’t take into account a shooter bias. That goal would have gotten him a stoppable one if Ovechkin had scored it, but the fact that it was Lucic in 2022 might have made me consider it a softy of the night contender more than just an average stoppable goal. Lucic just scored his first two goals of the season over the last two games, both against the Sharks.

Reimer had some absolute stinkers tonight, especially the 7th goal. Like he forgot the game was still on

Yeah, that last one was bad from Kadri, but the Lucic one I thought was worse.

But like I said, maybe it’s the Lucic factor. He hardly scores at all anymore, so when I see a nasty leaky one like that going in and it’s from Lucic, it makes me shake my head a little bit more.

Last year he kept scoring 5-hole on breakaways for a stretch. Including one on Nico Daws, which if it wasn’t his first goal of last year I think it was definitely the first 5-hole shot breakaway goal of the year. And they weren’t even dekes. He would just unload a wrister from the slot through the goalie’s pads and it was really fooling a bunch of them.

Anyway, I had to get this one done early. I review the goals every night and put them down in my notes, but I’m too tired to type it on here at night. I kind of needed to, as I’ll be on the road driving to South Florida in the morning.

It was hard to find a clear softy of the night, despite the very high percentage of goals I counted stoppable. This one stuck out to me live for how much room Quinn had to shoot. Reimer looks terrible since he came back from injury.
