Post-Game Talk: [GM61] Canucks defeat Ducks | 3-2 | DeBrusk, Blueger, & Soucy | The Souce Got Loose

A bit disingenuous to say it was just a strong defensive effort. His line tilted the ice and he looked confident and decisive with the puck. Was unlucky not to end up with at least a couple points.

I agree that we need a larger sample size before we start believing again, but this was the most Pettersson-like game he's played in a year.
he's had games like this before against bad/tired teams, like against san jose before christmas. it's nice to see but we've been through this 1 or 2 good games followed by 5 stinkers countless times already.

I love that all three Petterssons were awesome in different ways and roles. Very encouraging all around. If Petey can maintain this he’ll start racking up points and get back to being the two-way force he’s shown he can be.

There’s so many people that want to acquire Zegras and I’ve been against for years. He sucks. He sucks as a hockey player and he is a piece of shit between the whistles. Don’t want him anywhere near this organization.

While I agree with you, the San Jose game is an unfair comparison since he left that game with an injury. Wasn’t any sort of chance to build off that momentum.

Kind of hum-drum affair but Canucks definitely deserved the win. Schedule working in the Canucks' favour but at least they took advantage of it. Good job from the defense of boxing out and keeping slot generally clean.

One game were Lankanin didn't have to be excellent to have a win.

Good

Hronek - times when he forced the passes some and he is far from establishing himself as the a top end PP QB but he pushed the play from the back and got the puck out of danger around his net.

Pettersson - seemed to struggle a little less with the puck and not get caught up in traffic as much. Thought he was defensively strong and got puck through neutral zone more effectively. Played a lot and was central to the play throughout. At this point, you have to celebrate other things than his offense b/c that is about all you're getting.

Blueger -scored (finally) and was again very good on the PK along with Suter

Myers - like M. Pettersson had a quiet but effective game. Defense was a strong point in this game.

Boeser - got himself open for chances and made a good pass on the first goal. Back checked well and if this is his last game (which it should be if the team has any sense) then he went out on a good note. If he does get traded it will be very interesting to see what he can do elsewhere.

Poor

Hoglander - had maybe one good shift. Otherwise looked slow and fighting the puck. Had struggles in transition (as he frequently does) and only place he looked decent was along the end boards in the Anahiem end. Once the play headed back the other way, he floundered. Seemed to be benched at times.

Others

Lankanin - rebound control was not as good as usual. Some scary moments around his net.

Lekkermaki - looking smoother. Can see how he can be dangerous. Down the road he will, I think, be a player you can't give chances to. He is lurking all the time and has sense of how to read the play and change gears when he sees a chance forming.

EP2 - solid effort. He will be d-man in this League for years to come. Might compare him to the Kraken defenseman Larsen - that seems a reasonable projection.

You hope this game will not convince managerment to somehow be buyers. Think the obvious choice (especially with nothing in the way of a back up goalie and Hughes on the shelf) is to get what you can for players like Boeser, Soucy and maybe others.

Not 11.6m good

Dude. No offence, but if I went over to the Oilers board and argued that one of your star players sucked and wasn't playing up to his contract, do you think that I would be welcomed over there? Why are you here spouting this stuff? Am I missing something?

And I believe this wasn't the first game he looked engaged. He has been doing some really interesting things lately, giving me some hope that he will recover. But I think it will take this effort and commitment to competing for the rest of the year without any more challenges being thrown his way, and then at least the offseason to get back up to speed. Over here, we have to at least hope... But yeah, 11.6 right now is hard to swallow. Now go back to what I gather is your own board please

edit: Not sure it is obvious enough that I am lumping you in as an Oilers fan on purpose

If the Canucks do end up moving on from Soucy or Forbort in the coming days, it will be the play of EP25 who will make one or both of them redundant.

I mean how can you not be seriously impressed with this kid. He closes so fast on the puck-carrier, and he's so calm and controlled in his own zone. How do you take him out of the lineup?

Lekkerimaki showed off that lethal release a couple of times tonight.....on and off his stick in the blink of an eye. Just needs to get stronger. But the skill-set is pretty special.

Two kids who make watching the Canucks more than worthwhile down the stretch.

Nah the team won and blueberry boy wants 2 playoff games of revenue
Mods still haven't caught on to your shtick pretending to be a nucks fan?

God I hope your in elementary school, at least that would be better than being a grown man spending his time constantly shitting on a teams board where actual fans, gather and cheer for the team they love and calling them out when warranted but you do nothing but hate post and make rude replies like this one.

The ducks are not the sharks and quite frankly had nothing to do with the opposition, he looked like the old EP, confident and desisive. His detracters have no issue calling him out but make up excuses when he has a good game.

Personally I think a lot of people don't like the fact he's very Swedish when it comes to how he presents himself, he's not outgoing enough for some here.

One time where the GameScore card doesn't really match the eye test. Didn't expect to see Hronek at the very bottom. Thought he had a strong game

yeah when i said "bad/tired teams" the ducks fall into the tired part.

feel free to look through my post history. i have been excited before by EP40 and then seen a string of dogshit, inexcusable efforts. i want nothing more than for him to get back to his peak, but he's disappeared twice on this team and this current period is probably the most soul destroying thing i've seen as a fan. we don't lose to the oilers if he's going at 80%, this team is probably challenging for the division title without his slump, and miller is probably still on the team (i'm not excusing miller's "incident").

i am going to be the first one to be cheering if he gets back up to his standard of play, but calling his detractors xenophobic after this year of nonsense is straight up delusional. people have a right to be disappointed with him.

I think a lot of guys around the league would be banging their sticks for Garland, tagging Zegras several times. Players hate that guy.
lol players around the league also hate Garland, so everyone wins with a fight between those two

Ducks look like they've finally figured it out.

This wasn't their best effort and was a scheduled loss. But seems like they could conceivably be a moderate threat down the stretch and have to be considered a playoff potential next year.
-

Obviously as perhaps the biggest Petey fan on the boards I'm stoked on his performance. He was everywhere, more assertive, shooting, his usual amazing self in the defensive zone (seriously, people don't notice how often he makes an incredible read to break a cycle that's at risk of becoming a long shift in our end), had a couple of really nice passes. That no-looker spin pass to Garland on a puck coming around the boards onto his backhand was world class.
Still doesn't have the elite elite speed or dynamism he will regain next year, but he's smart enough to be really effective without it, and tonight he was.

Thought Joshua had a pretty bad game. I don't hold it against him at all. He started behind the 8 ball due to a cancer diagnosis and it's a hard league to catch up to. But thought Garland and Petey gave him some pucks in fairly good spaces and a lot of plays died on his stick.

Lekkerimaki is clearly more than just a big shot. He has poise and reads defenses, plays with their expectations and can hit a trailer. Like what I'm seeing but think the transformation will come next year when he's added 7 or 8 lbs.

Love the dynamic that Chytil and O'Connor's speed add to the team.

Suter is just such an incredlble swiss army knife. It's sort of sad to lose him, but neat to get an asset for him and happy to see him get a serious contract. He's been such a gift to us, and a pro scouting win, at 1.6 million. Will be happy for him to get 3.2-3.5 for another team, he's earned it.

Boeser had some good touches, a good pass, and could have easily had two goals if not for spectacular saves. But didn't look particularly dynamic. Still gets sort of buried in coverage a lot since his concussion.

Sherwood and Blueger are such a nice buzz saw 4th line option. Hoglander can be, but my God does he make some unconscionable decisions. There was a play where we got a bit stuck in our zone, finally worked the puck out to him under heavy pressure and he throws it into double coverage while standing still into the middle of the ice. Gave the Ducks another shift in our end. The play, and a 4th line beer leaguer would have known this, was to dump it and get the f*** off of the ice. He must give our coaching staff conniptions because he can play 3 or 4 games that range from effective to 'didn't hurt you and did some good things' and then do something you just can't believe.

DeBrusk owned up to it in his interview but he made a couple of terrible passes on the pp. Full credit for his goal and is a fast reliable player when he isn't scoring.

Hronek is deeply underrated by some on here. Moves the puck really well and is really smart and incisive defensively. Sort of plays D like Bieksa did in that he doesn't read passively, he finds the right moment and moves toward the pressure.

Soucy looked like he was having fun out there and effective. Good to see whether we trade him or not. I like him as a player and it has sucked to watch him struggle.

EP25 is clearly an NHL Dman with pretty decent upside. It's so cool that he has fallen into our laps. I didn't think he'd be doing this for at least a year if ever and we still have Willander to come.

MPetey is quietly so effective. I love the trade and signing of him. Just a wet blanket on anything the opposition wants to do.

Forbert: keep him. So good on the PK, an ideal 7 or 6.5 D man.

In fact, even without Hughes we probably have a top 12 D core or so based on depth and guys playing in their correct slot. Add Hughes and it's top 5. Incredible to see this go from an absolute achille's heel to a strength in like a month and a half.

Lankinen didn't see much action, got bad bounces against, and had some uncharacteristically shaky looking moments but was by no means bad and was good enough to win.

Bring on Minnesota.

I love the trade deadline and the stretch of a playoff race. I'm really stoked to see what happens for us, and around the league as well.

The Canucks took care of business against a team playing on back to backs, but it was much closer on the scoreboard than it should have been.

Much better game for EP40, however let's face it, the narrative would be quite different if his lack of production was a contributing factor in them blowing this game.

At least two of Boeser, Suter, Soucy, and Forbert should be dealt in the next couple of days.

Executed on a schedule win, and thumbs up for that.

So nice to see EP1 try to take guys on 1-on-1 again. Nothing to show from it on the scoresheet but that type of game on a consistent basis will come with a lot of points.

It's good to see Pettersson actually have a battle level as a follow-up to that interview where he took some accountability for his play. He actually looked like a guy who wanted to drive play and have the puck on his stick, which has been a pretty rare occurrence over the past year. Liked that line with Garland and Joshua, though more so Garland was effective.

Lankinen was having rebound issues yesterday, which happens to him from time to time. He really kicked out a juicy one right in the slot on that second goal.

No real surprises except the level of crashing the net.

The PP was one for five. The PK killed both penalties.

EP40 got 3 shots on net

Garland broke Zegras' cherry

An expected win over a non playoff team in their 2nd of a back to back.

The game looked like a tired team playing a well rested team.

No Hughes.

This is a real hard game to analyze with Anaheim playing so badly.

It was a win but really didn't change much. The Canucks had all the advantages.

The team was great in the face off circle.

EPD looked ready.

Lots of good auditions

Honestly I am okay with keeping Hughes out because Hronek plays like a #1 without him. And Hughes need the time to recover.
Yes, but no one in league is as good as Hughes.
We have guys stepping up for all the stars gone (or not playing up to their skill level) from the lineup and only Lankinen has been their equal. Lankinen has been letting in some softies though/
This was a team that was a scheduled loss.

We were definitely the better team all night. We let one in on the rush which is Anaheim's game. They playedall night looking for that opportunity and they got the first goal with it in spite of being hemmed into their own zone all period with a shot count against 15-2.

Canucks tried to defend their lead in the third and it almost worked - they scored a goal but then they gave up one.

Regardless, Anaheim was so frustrated they got goaded into a fights with seconds out of a sense of revenge left ruining their momentum and chance. We got under their skin. Was really nice to see.

Joshua was really upping his game. As was Boeser. Even Petey, especially defensively.

Faceoffs were incredible. With Miller no longer here we still dominated.

Very entertaining game.

Let's hope we get Horvat back before Friday and Brock is signed long term.

hopefully we stop seeing "hronek is a product of hughes" posts now lol
I have not seen that. Hronek is clearly a better player now on the Canucks than he was in Detroit. He never knew he could contribute offensively and now he can regardless of who's side he is on.
