Using a 2nd and a 3rd round prospect for a trade like this just sucks. Who knows how much he'll move the needle over Hatakka. Felt like assets like that could go for way more in the offseason but now it's just for a marginal upgrade. maybe the gm doesn't think he'll be the one there in the offseason

We did need another dman. Team is in a playoff spot with two guys out. We can’t rely on two kids all the time down this stretch.

The folks who are thinking we aren’t buying or won’t do anything since Jack is out are not living in reality. The front office cannot stand pat. That will give awful vibes to our core players.

Now, you can all poke at this trade for what it’s worth. Thats fine. But it’s naive to think that acquiring a dman right now is shocking. Its not at all

This year's draft is thought to be weak and 'the better of Winnipeg or Edmonton's pick' is still going to be well into the 50s, but there's no reason to trade Traff for a guy like this unless there just aren't lefties available. Fitzgerald has history with Dumoulin and I can see this being a prelude to Dumoulin as a $1m 7th defenseman next year but you can't give up Traff for that privilege.

They did have to deal for an LHD, or pick one up on waivers or something. You can't go down the stretch with the 4th guy on your LHD depth chart being Colton White or Topias Vilen. But this is too high a price.
