I mean, if you ever thought Jake DeBrusk was gonna be a "gamebreaker" you were sorely mistaken. But he's proven repeatedly that he's capable of really good results with other good players. Which is pretty much the definition of a great complementary player.

The problem is...our supposed "line drivers" aren't really doing as much of that as they should. Or as much as like...Spinny Garland does.
You and I have different definitions of a great complementary player I guess. A great one elevates his linemates, while perhaps not being as talented as your superstars. When your impact is similar to Danton Heinen, I don't think you should get paid as much as Debrusk does.

For the record, I was never a fan of Debrusk. I just don't like players with questionable IQ, and it was odd to hear Allvin want him so much. Debrusk is meh, we don't have the cap to waste on meh.

Again thats kind of my point he is hands on regarding the powerplay unless something changed you can find articles about him running the powerplay all last season and he talks about it post game and what he wants changed and follow the practices on twitter where some cover his power play coaching...

You can argue the x's and o's of what you think but the point I am making he is hands on and he does not know what to do with it as I have said many times.

And how do you fix it?

Like, clearly we're lacking that top-end skill that makes a great PP tick right now. Tocchet getting more involved doesn't help. But if he's totally hands off, it clearly doesn't work great either. You can't be waiting on some impact PP ace to waltz in and fix it all. You need your top players to grab the thing by the horns and ride.

I’ve probably said it before out of frustration but never actually done it but tonight’s the first time I’ve willingly and uninterruptedly turned off a Canucks game mid 2nd period since Tocchet first became coach.

What an absolute shameful stretch of performances. I don’t care we only have 1 (now 2) regulation losses. This team has not looked good at all aside from a few bright spots. Our commitment to team defense has been laughably horrendous. Half of our guys just either aren’t competing or have clearly been too comfortable riding on the coattails of last seasons success.

Soucy and Myers have been disastrous. Pettersson, and I can really only defend him for so long, has fundamental issues and flaws that have had me second guessing whether we should cut him loose ASAP. Miller has been dogshit and his yo-yoing effort is f***ing tiresome. Just too many damn mid ass players all over the line up and about as much question marks.

The players need to wake the f*** up.

I think you've got a fundamentally incorrect definition of "complementary" tbh.

DId you read my first post, I discussed several ways I suggested to help fix it as did Hansen on the radio.... I am not excusing the players but I also think his hands on decisions are hurting it as well. Hes also the guy responsible for it wether you agree with it or not...Coaches dont get a pass because the powerplay is not working.

I am a firm believer in waiting until the 25 game mark and DeBrusk clearly has been trying / skating hard.

Given his history of streakiness, i think being out on DeBrusk this early would be ridiculous

I think he's been playing good hockey, just not able to score or get shots bc Pettersson's been body snatched or something. He is absolutely a complementary player, and he's a target I like.

Honestly, how many of the problems we are talking about get "solved" if Pettersson is actually playing like he can?

Don't you dare make any trades to try and fix this Allvin.

We are way too many pieces away from anything resembling a team to give up our future for.
