Who gains the zone is something everyone focuses on because it's obvious, and it is an important part of a good powerplay. But at the end of the day...you can't coach good powerplay. The players themselves have to move around and organically create offense. It's every good powerplay. They've got guys who can do this.

For the Canucks...Miller is great on the PP but he's not very creative. Hughes is creative, but if he doesn't have anyone to work with organically, what's he supposed to do? He's moving around as the "QB" and the "Receivers" aren't working back to the ball or doing anything to help. And a lot of that is just...Pettersson has to be better. Plain and simple. If he's "on his game" on the PP...suddenly the whole thing works completely differently. It's got a third "pole" that draws defensive focus/PK box attention. And it stresses the PK in some many other ways. But instead, he's kinda sucking and standing around not doing much...even though he's obviously capable of far more.

Again thats kind of my point he is hands on regarding the powerplay unless something changed you can find articles about him running the powerplay all last season and he talks about it post game and what he wants changed and follow the practices on twitter where some cover his power play coaching...

You can argue the x's and o's of what you think but the point I am making he is hands on and he does not know what to do with it as I have said many times.

I've said this a million times and no one f***ing understands this.

You don't go 80% on the PP, the PP isn't a break, you don't go 98% on the PP, you go 100%. If you aren't hustling and moving ocassionally, all it is is keep away.

The players need to move their ass, or coaches need to make a system where they do. I don't care. It's f***ing annoying to watch.

Despite all the things to complain about. You need at least 1 goal to win and the Canucks haven't reached that bar yet. No need for grand statements about this game or specific players in another month we'll have our answer.

Myers is a -3 and his stupid pinch in the first and subsequent goal against looks to have shattered silovs confidence and set the tone for the game
Myers has been ass, which isn't really a surprise. He's never been the poster boy for consistency. That pinch was something else. Instead of going at the guy he decided to turn his tanker ass the other way colliding into a teammate as per his usual style.

Debrusk is a complimentary player that lacks high end skill and hockey IQ has always been a bit lacking. The beaming praise for a 40-50 pt player was always bizarre.

His advanced analytics were inflated by being linemates with some of the best hockey players in modern Bruins history. We really needed more high end game breakers this off-season, especially with Pete playing so pitifully.

I mean, if you ever thought Jake DeBrusk was gonna be a "gamebreaker" you were sorely mistaken. But he's proven repeatedly that he's capable of really good results with other good players. Which is pretty much the definition of a great complementary player.

The problem is...our supposed "line drivers" aren't really doing as much of that as they should. Or as much as like...Spinny Garland does.

Powerplay unit will get bag skated after this game, over half the game on the PP, 0 goals and short handed against.

Yea I think this is the biggest thing. It’s hard to judge complementary players as much when the line drivers aren’t going. It’s great to say they need game breakers but they have Pettersson, Miller and Hughes. Not many teams have more than 3 game-breaking line drivers in the cap era. They just need to get going. Miller and Hughes have been decent to start the year but they can be better and Miller hasn’t been good in this one. And everyone knows about Pettersson.
